First epic fail for 2012 2.8 X1

I bought my X1 in June, and its perfect, literally.

I convinced a friend to buy one, which he got last week.

Result after 2 days = Check engine light, reduced power warning.

Dealer response = Come back next week we'll check it out, should take a couple minutes.

During the week-end = Engine oil minimum warning pops. Problem with wiper sensor making the wipers go on the fritz for no reason...

Next week, at the dealer = We'll need your car for 10 days, or more.

A failure in the fuel delivery system is causing both limp mode and oil to be "consumed" lightning fast... I personally call BS on this explanation.

I feel so bad because my X1 is running fantastic and his is off to a very bad start.

To make things worse, he has to drive a bare bone 323i (not even bluetooth) for the next couple weeks while they fix his 5 day old X1...

It looks like a some dumb "ass" @ dealership has bought a regular gas for the X1 before the delivery . It's a BIG "no-no" ,only Premium for those babies

He got it from BMW Canbec and I do agree a rushed/improper preparation for delivery might be the cause.

I bought mine from Park Ave BMW (South Shore).

If it were just that 87 octane was used instead of the 91 required, wouldn't it have thrown a temporary check engine code. This code was a hard fault (which doesn't clear with a battery disconnect).

I know my colleague didn't put 87 because he was used to putting 91 in his previous car, an Audi A3 2.0T.

Anyhow... was just sharing the story. I'll try to get the bill of materials for the repair... maybe it will shed more light on the problem.

i got mine too at park ave, whom did you got your car?
Rocky was my rep, he's pretty good, aftersale is also great.
But since this new 2.0T engine is quite new, I'm sure there might have some tweak before it matures...

John D. (master BMW salesman) is my rep at Park Ave BMW. I don't know Rocky personally.

The bottom line is that small dealers like that need their clients a lot more than Canbec who has enormous volume, so the quality of the service (and people) is a notch higher.

But i think this could be a problem with BMW on a whole? they are famous for their unreliability back home. I've heard of someone picking up a brand new E60 when it launched in 2003 the moment they exited the dealership, it stalled on public road. But most of the horror stories were for the E60s.
