Lamborghini Urus The First In Brand's Electrified Future

Quote:
Aside from being Lamborghini’s first mass-produced SUV, the upcoming Urus will pave the way for the brand’s future adoption of turbochargers and electrification in its models.

Speaking with Car Advice at the global launch of the Aventador S, Lamborghini R&D boss Maurizio Reggiani confirmed that the Urus will be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and that similar technologies will be employed into the brand’s future super sports cars.

“It is fair to say, the Urus will be the first Lamborghini that will adopt a PHEV system. A PHEV system is currently ideal for packaging in an SUV platform, but the technology right now doesn’t allow us to set up a super sports car with PHEV the way we would like to,” Reggiani said.

Chief executive Stefano Domenicalli backed up this sentiment and said that a PHEV system will only be introduced to the brand’s sports cars at the right time.

“We can certainly have a naturally aspirated V12 and electrification, but at the right moment. It could be complementary to the V12, but we won’t have a full electric vehicle anytime soon, for sure.

“We are already working on the next-generation super sports car platform, but for sure, the second engine of the new SUV will be hybrid,” he said.

As for the brand’s use of turbochargers for its flagship models, discussions have been had but the firm is remaining focused on naturally-aspirated engines. For now at least.

“It is true, that at some point in the future, we will need to think to change to turbocharging [for flagship models], but for this moment, a large capacity, naturally aspirated engine is for us,” Reggiani confirmed.

It looks like what might happen if an Evoque mated with a Ceylon, which then decided that chrome wasn't all that becoming on it and decided to enlist a reject from Paninfarina to give it a makeover.

Awful.

These modern Lambo designs are going to age like bread. Are the designers only equipped with a ruler? How about some curves!

It's like a 4 door version of Huracan with extended off road capabilities. Not the best looking SUV but very cool vehicle .If Porsche sells well why not this vehicle

Domenicali Says Lamborghini Urus Production Will Start In April

http://www.carscoops.com/2017/02/dom...hini-urus.html

Quote:
Lamborghini chief executive Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that production of the Urus SUV will kick off in April.

The ex-Ferrari Formula 1 boss made the revelation during an interview with Digital Trends but said that the initial models built will be prototypes and not production-spec models bound for customers.

“Production will start in April, though the plant will initially build pre-series models. As you know, this is an entirely new process so the first few cars will be prototypes. It’s a very delicate period, which is why 2017 will be a very important year or us. Don’t underestimate the big step we’re taking,” Domenicali said.

The boss also said that before deliveries of the Urus can commence, the brand’s dealerships and after-sales network need to be educated about the all-new model.

“It’s easy just to remember the number 7,000, but we need to prepare the after-sales network and the dealers; they need to know the car. The first cars will also be used to train people. It’s a matrix of complexity that, for our dimension, is a big, big step,” he said.

Lamborghini has previously said that the Urus will join the Aventador and Huracan in its range sometime in 2018. After it hits the market with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, a hybrid alternative will be offered, marking a first for the brand.

2018 Lamborghini Urus spy shots

Quote:
It was only a couple of days ago that we learned Lamborghini’s upcoming SUV will be sticking with the Urus name of the concept unveiled in 2012 to preview the vehicle—and now a prototype has been spotted.

The prototype was spotted in Denmark by a reader of local website Pro-Street which has more of the shots. It reveals for the first time the shape of the Urus in production trim, and as was expected the vehicle is a bit bulkier than the rakish concept. It also appears to have lost the concept’s pumped fenders, although at least the Countach-style wheel arches remain.

Lamborghini has done a good job of hiding its prototypes for the Urus. Development is almost complete as the first pre-production examples will be rolling off the line at Lamborghini’s plant in northern Italy as early as April. Deliveries won’t start until 2018, however.

The Urus is based on the the MLB platform of fellow Volkswagen Group SUVs like the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. However, to extract the performance one would expect of a Lamborghini, engineers are thought to have used lighter carbon fiber in place of some of the steel and aluminum sections.

Under the hood is expected to be a twin-turbocharged V-8. It will most likely be a 4.0-liter design shared with other VW Group brands. Output should lie somewhere between 500 and 600 horsepower. This launch model will eventually be joined by a hybrid.

And though the focus of the Urus will be on-road performance, Lamborghini has confirmed there will be modes to handle off-road conditions such as sand, snow, gravel, etc. The Lamborghini boss hinted that there will also be a personalized mode similar to the Ego mode introduced on the Aventador S.

And in case you were wondering, Urus is taken from a form of the name for the aurochs, the ancient wild ancestor of modern cattle.

2018 Lamborghini Urus SUV Spied In Production Trim, Stays True To Concept

http://www.carscoops.com/2017/02/201...-spied-in.html

Quote:
Lamborghini’s first crossover – not counting the 4x4-ish LM002, the Urus, is on its way to becoming a reality, with a prototype of the production model spied during a test run in Europe.

This is the second time in less than 24 hours that we’ve caught up with an Urus tester, following a rear shot of the high-performance crossover in Denmark on Thursday.

By combining these photos, we get a pretty good idea of what the production Urus will look like and it’s pretty darn close to the original Urus Concept from the 2012 Beijing auto show, maintaining its dramatic angular lines almost intact.

While wrapped in camouflage, we can see that the differences over the study are more on the trivial side, and include things like the use of regular door mirrors instead of cameras, the repositioning of the quad exhaust pipes, re-profiled bumpers with different vents and updated lights.

The Italian sports crossover will share its building blocks with the VW Group’s higher-end SUVs, including the platform underpinning the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and the next Porsche Cayenne, and a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine.

Aside from being Lamborghini’s first turbocharged car, the Urus will also be the first to offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain, as confirmed by the Sant’Agata firm’s CEO, Stefano Domenicali, in a recent interview with Digital Trends.

“I think for sure hybrids will be a part of Lamborghini,” he said. “We expect our first hybrid will be the second variant of the Urus to hit the market. It’s clear that hybridization will come through the SUV.”

In the same interview, the Lamborghini boss said that “Production will start in April, though the plant will initially build pre-series models. As you know, this is an entirely new process so the first few cars will be prototypes”.

We could see the production model making its world premiere as early as this spring at the Shanghai Auto Show, with sales to kick off either towards the end of the year or in early 2018.

That render has way too much rear fender. The mule looks to have about as much as the current X6.

I think its the angle and camo. Here is another comparison. I would say the roof line is a little thicker than the concept.

2018 Lamborghini Urus: This Is A Realistic Interpertation Of The Production Model

Quote:
Would you believe that it's been nearly five years since Lamborghini first presented the Urus concept? We hardly can either, but the road from concept to production is finally coming to an end.

The question is, what will it look like in its finished form?

That's what rendering artist Jan Peisert has endeavored to figure out. What he's done is render over the most recent spy shots of the prototype seen under wraps while undergoing testing, giving us an idea of what to expect.

The result may not be quite completely resolved as an overall design, but that's not the point here. The point is to interpret what the spy shots tell us – and we have to say that, while we trust the finished product looks a little better than this, the rendering achieves its purpose pretty convincingly.

Watch Peisert undertake the process from start to finish in the first video below, and compare the 2012 concept with the rendering of the 2018 production model in the second video below that.

The first renders look good. I like it. Not fond of the name, though. Sounds like some kind of asshole infection.
