Wow that's quite the list of past cars, how do you like the S5 in comparison to the 06 Cayman S and C6' s you had?

Wow man...suprised to see you driving that. Looks gorgeous though. Always been a stunning car inside and out. And with the AWE exhaust they sound quite exotic.

I have gone through so many damn cars in the past five years that I wanted to try. Its actually embarrassing. My '06 CaymanS was the best handling car I have ever been in...just a bit underpowered for what I wanted. The new CaymanS is simply brilliant as far as I am concerned (for a fun, non daily driver) and one my wife wants me to seriously consider when the time comes for me to get back into a sports car. The C6 Vettes were a lot of fun but really lacked on the interior...especially coming from a Euro car background. The C7 has addressed this a ton. I still love the exterior looks of the widebody C6's though.

The S5 is a great daily driver GT type car. Nice around town power/tq. Fantastic interior appointments and layout. Love Audi's MMI system. Much better/intuitive than BMW's Idrive plus I hate the Ipad'ish Nav that looks to be just stuck on the new BMW M3/4. I was about to do the APR tune/pulley swap which adds nearly 100 whp to the car but then decided on the career change and elected to put the car up for sale. The S5 is not a car that I would have as a fun/weekend type of car. I said this about my former M3's as well. They are fantastic performance oriented daily driver GT cars.

Thanks man. Yeah, I always really loved the looks of the S5 and then pulled the trigger when I saw the M4 in the flesh (just not sold on the styling...not a fan of the flat nose front, hood line, Nav location). I thought I was going to drive this car for 2+ years until the 991's came down in price and then get into one of those or a 981 CaymanS....then came the career change.

The car I wish I never got rid of was my 997 Turbo.

thanks for the insights, the replacement for the CS will be a weekend/fun car, but it is also my only car so it is also used for some practical stuff like grocery getting.

sounds like you would have the C7 over the S5 in such a scenario, which is the way I am leaning.

A 911 (991) may not be completely out of the question. I did a search on cars.com and autotrader.com and if you're willing to just move your price up to $75K you'd have a few options.
Just putting it out there for all the options.

How was the 996? I've been considering picking up a lower mileage one in the future.

I agree with you on the styling. Since I need a back seat for my daughter, I would ideally like a 4 door but the M3 looks so boxy. The interior also still feels like its gotten a bit cheaper in some areas and the nav is pretty meh. The hood line is attrocious and looks like the designers were just lazy to incorporate in a good way. My biggest gripe is the sound. Its downright awful!
I'm actually really digging the new C63/S which with their weight and power I dont think the M3/4 will be the car to beat in that segment especially seeing how the prev gen c63 lci was argueably the better car.
The new Cayman esp the GTS variant is absurd and the look is very exotic, like a CGT.
For a DD supercar, 911 turbo is still the King.

If you go C7, I'd still have a beater for Toronto winters. Hell, just take $5k and get something old and AWD/4WD that you can rely on for 3K miles/year.

I personally would not have a C7 as my only car. It surprisingly has plenty of room for gym bags, golf clubs, groceries, etc. but they are a handful in inclement weather......even rain.

The 996 Turbo was bulletproof. Fanatastic car, Mezger engines are brilliant, so well put together, beautiful paint quality and are very affordable now. And for $2K+/- you can get an additional 75-100 HP out of them via Softronic tune, GIAC tune, etc.

Just need to get past the fried egg headlights

Nice, style has never been a deal breaker for me. I've read that they are fantastically reliable and can't wait to get my hands on one. I guess my real struggle is going to be deciding between the 996tt and the M2.

live in a condo so having 2 cars is not possible, I don't commute to work so I can pretty much pick and choose when I drive so I would avoid bad weather in the C7 as much as possible.

I actually looked at an evora before the Cayman but they are very impractical as an only car and to get an S still under warranty is beyond my 70kish CDN budget. Nice car though, handles incredibly.

Next car suggestions for a low end torque fiend?

I currently drive a 2014 Cayman S. I love the car, in fact it is my fave of the 17 cars I've had. It has an electricity and fluidity to it that make it a joy to drive, and the flat six sounds and feels pretty awesome.

But what it lacks is low end torque. It makes about 270 ft/lbs at 4500 rpm. My first real performance car was an 87 notchback foxbody mustang 5.0 and I can still distinctly remember the first time I ever sunk my foot into the pedal and felt the pull of 300 ft lbs at about 3000 rpm in a 3000 lb car. It was exhilarating. I then moved on to a modded 89 that probably made about 400 ft/lbs and had 3:73 gears. That thing was so much fun.

I eventually graduated to more refined sports cars, the first of which was a 1990 300Zx NA, but my love of the sound of V8 and the associated low end torque never went away.

In search of a return to that in 2003, I test drove a 2000 Corvette C5, but I found that it lacked the refinement and poise that I had to come appreciate in a car and so I picked up a 2003 350Z instead.

But I've always still longed for the low end pull of a torquey V8. When the C7 came out, I was quite interested since it seemed to offer refinement and the V8 pull. I was able to test drive one (which is tough feat to accomplish up here in the great white north), but I was surprised to be disappointed in the partial throttle response. I expected the car to pull like a train and remind me of my old 89 fox body. But it didn't, even in track mode. At wide open throttle it definitely pulled crazy but I didn't find the throttle response as electric as I hoped at partial throttle inputs. I've heard the same from other C7 drivers who say the throttle is kind of like an on/0ff switch that anything less than 85% throttle there isn't a whole lot of throttle response, it seems it might be a function of GM's torque management throttle mapping.

Right now, I am highly anticipating the GT350. I am hoping that it offers more electric throttle response than the C7. I do wonder if the voodoo engine will lack the low end grunt I am seeking as it is more of a revver, but I figure it will offer more of that at least than my cayman S.

Any other suggestions?
my parameters:
Non-turbo (I am very sensitive to and don't like turbo lag), supercharged is ok
manual transmission
100kish max price
2013 and up model year
smallish car like 3500lbsish max with decent handling and refinement

That is a hard find especially with the weight at 3500lbs and stick. Options are few, Autos and Turbo's are the future.

Not in any Order

1) Lotus Evora S ( Supercharged)
2) Stang GT 5.0
3) ZL1 ( Supercharged) or SS
4) BRZ ( With an aftermarket supercharger)
5) Z06 ( Supercharged)
6) Older M6 V10
6) Dodge Viper
7) M4 ( I know its Turbo'd but it might surprise u)
8) 2014/13 CTS V Coupe ( Supercharged)

HELLCAT

GT350 is gonna be over 3500lbs, so a Hellcat thats over ain't gonna hurt you. And get the 8A. Torque multiplication is your friend.
