This has the updated 2015 GT Willow Springs lap time. Faster than the old Boss 302 Leguna Seca (different driver). More than 2 seconds faster than the M235i (same driver). There's still a number of true sports car versions of the Mustang coming up though. Sound like the "GT" is actually a true GT car and not a sports car. I'm guessing the next $60,000 Mustang Gt350/SVT/whatever will easily trounce an M3.

I think the Camaro SS won because the've had so much more time to develop the chassis. I believe it wasn't until the ZL1 and 1LE package did it handle worth a damn. The new Alpha chassis Camaro should really be interesting. Hopefully Cadillac will share what they've learned developing the ATS-V and CTS-V chassis' and make it great from day one.

It does seem like they left a lot on the table for future versions down the road.

I think you are spot on. I think they purposely design heavy exhausts and lower power levels so Ford Racing and their aftermarket partners can sell you performance parts. Or they can make special editions and add 30 more hp and a better suspension.

Right but comparing it to '10-'11+ is moot since we're talking about bolt ons making up the difference instead of a whole new engine. That 3V was a boat anchor compared to the Coyote. 2015 owners won't be in anywhere near the same boat as '10 owners.

What, like BMW's performance intake and performance exhaust (which don't add any HP) and a big brake kit?

Can you say "coilover"?

I'm with you, I remember thinking that back then - they really hung them out to dry. Basically the new V6 put out as much HP as the outgoing V8 and the new V8 was off the charts. I would have been pissed beyond belief....

It would be hard to imagine any company being that stupid again but who knows. It certainly seems likely that they'll "find" the extra 15-25 HP everyone was expecting anyway. They probably figured that they would more or less hold the line until the new Camaro is out and decide where to go from there. Setting the bar too high would just mean Chevy would meet or beat and they would have played all/most of their cards. If the next SS has 450hp it will be an easy fix to stay in the mix.

Again, there's no way they pull anything that is comparable to the 3v->Coyote transition. The next few years will see Ford basically bolting on upgrades to unlock the power incrementally. '15 GT owners and (e.g.) '18 GT owners should be pretty close in numbers with equal mods, while the stock output creeps up to keep up with competition.

On stock internals. Insane!

Just saw a black 5.0 and I have to say, the body styling and shape look much better in person. The Camaro definitely has its work cut out for itself. Idk if I would personally ever buy one though, being spoiled by my E92.

Old post, but compared to the equivalent priced Mustang, the 2010 and beyond Camaro has always handled better. The G8/holden chassis was stiffened significantly for the reincarnation of the camaro and it pulled high lateral Gs from the beginning, as well as had the wheel well size to take serious rubber. The regular SS wasn't bad, the 1LE improved on it, the Z/28 finished it off. The 2011 Mustang had to be stiff as heck to have any chance at being competitive, but then it would be bounced all around on any kind of real road. With the solid rear axle, they really didn't have much choice. Tire size was limiting and the brake cooling was poor. With the new mustang, for some reason, they chose to make it quite "soft" in the suspension department, allowing the camaro to still dominate on the track and as far as handling. Looking forward to the 350 though to see what ford can do. There's no reason why they should let the camaro walk all over them.
