Yes, BMW USA have confirmed release of the X1 winter 2010/11. Engines TBC but there is talk of introducing the small diesels for the first time. Most likely also a petrol model XDrive 2.3i ?

I wished there was a N55 variant of the X1 but nonetheless, I think it's too small a market for that

Even though this info is a little dated (5/09) from C&D, it makes sense:
The company has told us that the X1 will be available in the U.S. as the xDrive30i, using a higher-horsepower and lower-torque version of the 3.0-liter six in the xDrive28i. In xDrive30i versions of the X3 and X5, that engine makes 260 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. Since the X1 is lighter than the X3, it should be a good performer. Let's hope that they dump the AT that was in the X3 and give us something better.
