2015 X1 sDrive28i Potential Buyer
So my parents are thinking about buying 2015 X1 sDrive28i. My parents currently drive 2006 Corolla, so this is going to be a big change.
What are some cons of the car? Any known issue that I should know? Thanks in advance! I'm excited for them to make the shift to German's |

The X1 is a smaller car than a Corolla so they should make sure it fits their driving needs. Also the gas milage is less plus requires higher octane gas. The biggest con is the RFT it comes with suck (harsh ride and do not last)

You will not be disappointed with the BMW. Consider also looking at the bigger engine 35i, which BMW will be discontinuing next year along with the rear drive. Better yet try one out with the bigger engine....

If BMW would have offered the 35i in RWD that's what we would have ordered. As it is the 28i has plenty of power. It's obviously not as fast as my 135i but it's more than enough for cruising on the Autobahn.
I'm torn about the RFTs. On one hand they really do ride harsh and they're expensive to replace, but on the other it's nice knowing my wife will never be completely stranded by a flat.

Replaced my factory installed Conti SSR RFTs with Bridgestone Driveguard RFTs last week. I've been very impressed with them so far, very smooth even above 80mph, harshness is just about gone. Big improvement over the stock tires, and 80 bucks a tire cheaper.

Other than long term reliability concerns and the looming all new model for 2016, I can only offer the following as cons IMHO, others may disagree.
- Gas is sensitive, it's tricky to launch slowly, the car kind of lurches - Engine sounds like a tractor compared to my Saab 2T - Brakes are INSANELY sensitive, they bit REALLY hard really quickly - Steering is very heavy for a modern car - Base interior is cheap - Leather is an option not standard despite the price tag - The tail gate does not have little handles built in so your hands are covered in crap when you close it - No power tail gate - Mileage is OK for 240 HP but still not as good as I would expect for 2015 - No arm rest which drives me bezerk Not a huge list TBH. |

- Gas is sensitive, it's tricky to launch slowly, the car kind of lurches (I notice this too especially in Sport mode). - Brakes are INSANELY sensitive, they bit REALLY hard really quickly (coming from a Corolla, this is very true for my parents). - Steering is very heavy for a modern car (we actually like this) - The tail gate does not have little handles built in so your hands are covered in crap when you close it (i think the one that we test drove have handles inside the tail gate?) - No arm rest which drives me bezerk (I didn't notice this, i believe there should be one? If not, wow). I think the bottom line is, my parents are not ready yet for 240HP turbocharged engine with sensitive brakes of BMW. I personally like the car other than the rear part of the X1, which i think looks a little odd. Really hope that the US will get the 1 series back!!! |

The first time I pulled up to the office, a buddy who is a big car guy saw me and remarked "is this US Spec? I didn't think you could get the diesel engine." He was being 100% serious. Power lift gate is the only option the X1 doesn't have that I want. My wife is really short so she has a hard time with the hatch.

I find the car is EASIER to drive hard. Not thrashing it but enthusiastic freeway ramps and acceleration onto said freeways, this is what it wants to do. It doesn't like being nursed.

The power gate would be nice but there are cut outs in the hatch to close it. They are not on the bottom where one might expect them but on the back.

I just replaced my Conti SSR with the Bridgestone Drive guard and the way improvements in ride quality are significant over the typical stiff walled run flat tire. Impact harshness is more subdued now.

Not sure if this is the right thread (this is my first post) but if someone more learned could comment on the following:
I terminated my lease early (demo which had 7500kms initially on it 2012 xd 28i X1 base model - no charges, last 5 payments to be covered by the Dealership) and upgraded (so they say) to A black on black demo with 2500Kms 2015 xd 28 X1 $36,990 loaded with the following options ZSL Sports Line $1,900 ZVK Executive Package $1,800 ZVR Technology Package $2,500 ZXW Lights Package $1,200 Full Price of Vehicle = $44,390 Demo Discount $1,800 Total Cost = $42,590 (excluding 13% Tax) Lease Rate 1.9% Monthly Lease $585 (Incl Taxes), zero down, 48 months 16k Kms per year. Over 48 months I will end up paying $585*48 = $28,080 Initial payment = $1732 (admin fees, registration etc) including $600 refundable security deposit Cost of Lease = $29,812 - $600 refundable security deposit = $29,212 Residual Amount = $22,400 At end of Lease Purchase Price = ($22,400 + Admin Fee $900) * 13% Tax = $26,329 Assuming I have money to buy this vehicle outright at the end of my lease without any financing (yeah right) total cost of the Vehicle = Lease Cost $29,212+Outright purchase price $26,329 = $55,541 Is this even a deal or did i just (un)knowingly bent over without any lube in hand? |

$585 is not baaaaaaaaaad but unless you're writing it off I just cannot, under any circumstance, make sense of leasing in any way, shape or form.
You can pick up a 2013 with less than 30,000 KM for about $35K all in. You're going to pay nearly $30K and own NOTHING after four years. NOTHING. I cannot make the numbers add up. |

I just had H&R springs installed yesterday, hopefully being an inch lower helps her out.
