Maybe an M35 for the X1

With the BMW F48 X1 BMW enters new uncharted territories: The second X1 generation will not only be the first SUV from Munich offered and based on a front-wheel drive architecture, it is also the base for the first BMW X1 M35i.

The BMW M Performance model based on the new X1 is rumored to appear in 2016 and aims at high-performance compact SUVs, like Mercedes GLA 45 AMG and Audi Q3 RS.

Despite the generally name associated usually with six-cylinder engines, 2016 BMW X1 M35i will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The strongest expansion stage of the BMW B48 2.0 liter will produce around 350 hp and thus at par with the competition from Stuttgart and Ingolstadt.

They can call it M all they want, but a 4-cyl FWD-based car will never be an M in my heart.
The M brand has now been so diluted that it's worthless.

First thing I did when I got my X1 was take the ///M badges off the outside.

I've heard that there will be an M version of the i3 .

J/k but yeah it has been diluted for some time now.

FWD might be anathema to ///M but 4 cylinder engines aren't.

Read the reviews of the GLA45 AMG (4 cylinder with FWD bias). Car & Driver recently compared it to a Porsche Macan Turbo and said it was more fun to drive than the Porsche (and was faster too!).

And if Mercedes can do that, imagine what BMW can do with an X1 M car.

A45AMG, CLA45AMG and GLA45AMG are AWD
(FWD but if needed the power is partly directed to the rear wheels, that happens a lot of the time.)

Look at other, example is the new generation Cayman/Boxster, they will get 4c (bi?) turbo engines with similar output as the 6c NA now has.
Still RWD, the mid engine is know to handle the output pretty well so I doubt then will introduce AWD in them but you never know.
You even will have a 1600cc Porsche so.....

You can Still Get it in xDrive, Ta Daaaaaaa! And I'm pretty confident BMW will not make us even FEEL that its a 4 cyl with all the exhaust systems and tech and speed... You'll only know its a 4 cyl when you open the hood (Am i right?)
