This one has 9" touch screen and it looks better. Couldn't find the price though.

Found it on fleebay "1080P Car DVD player gps In dash navigation system For BMW X1 E84 Support 3G+DVD" for $630.

I'm not sure if it can work without the supplied DVD player. I would like to keep the OEM CD player. In this case the only option to route the sound through the OEM audio would be to use the OEM AUX input. I don't think the OEM headunit has some hidden audio input on the back.

Something I personally don't like is the limitation of WinCE platform. It would be nice if it could install some Android on it.

Cool feature is the ability to hook up external WiFi adapter and use your smartphone to tether the internet connection. I don't know what kind of application one can install on that WinCE platform. Again Android would be nice with Pandora, Slacker, etc. apps.

Another cool feature is the CAN bus. You can read the car info and also use the steering wheel controls.

Add $19 and they'll add rear view camera!!

Garage List
The unit d1saster references looks better than the stock unit. How can that be so?

Yes, it has CAN BUS connection. I think it uses the connection from the BMW CD though which to me is a drawback:
