Insanely Expensive BMW curtains - Alternatives?

We all know BMW is expensive... but to charge 475 Euros ($640 US) for rear window curtains is crazy.

We're not even talking about electrically operated curtains but simply some "snap-in" curtains for the rear windows!
Is anyone using these?
Or, what else are you using in your X1's?

Let us know when you find out... Checking the Australian BMW accessories site doesn't even show that option.

(I tried using the X3's curtains for reference to see if we could establish a price factor, but neither site - portuguese/australian showed a price for those)

They show up now on the accessories site. Not sure on price. If you can find out please let us know.

Will be picking up my X1 in a couple of hours, and I ordered the curtains (they were kind enough to offer a discount) so... I'll post some pictures as soon as possible.

I'll probably get them too. I am a little paranoid of heat and the leather. In summer here (South East Queensland, Australia) it gets hot around 32/36 degrees Celsius. These may assist in heat reduction

Well, for heat reduction you'll be much better off with window tint films.

The curtains will cause some shadow and better "privacy" but they won't do much for heat - the sun will heat the curtains up, and as they're inside of the vehicle they'll irradiate heat inside.

When you have "treated windows" either from factory or post-install window film, they'll block the heat before it gets inside - hence the heat reduction properties. (And as they block UV as well, it also helps maintain the leather and plastics looking good.)

I have the X1 accessories list for the UK, those blinds cost £275 here. Note that there are in fact 5 separate blinds (back, 2 small side and 2 rear passenger window) and a bag in the pack, still pricey though.

PS : You can see them clearly in the pic NikNik has posted at the top of this thread.

I was told that they are just over $600 AUD.

I've just had them fitted to my car. Bundled as part of new car purchase.

Immediate impact is improved privacy to the rear of the vehicle.

I've got them down to $450 if fitted when purchased.

What about tinting?
I can go to tint a car and get tinting done for nearly 1/2 the cost. Is the cost saving worth it, or am I paying a premium for standard tint at bmw?

On a side note, two of the "curtain" supports have already "jumped out".

I guess the adhesive is not quite up to BMW quality! Very bad impression... Even more considering the outrageous cost of this package.
