New accents for the BMW X1

Munich. The BMW X1 is known as a pioneer and global market leader in the premium Sports Activity Vehicle and SUV segment – it is a prime example of sheer driving pleasure, bold design and premium character that is unrivalled in its class. In the spring of 2014, the compact BMW X is raising the standard for this segment even higher with eye-catching exterior accents, a more refined interior ambience and innovative equipment features. The very latest Internet-based services are being added to the range of BMW ConnectedDrive features in order to provide those drivers with modern “connectivity lifestyles” with the best mobility services available.

The stylish and bold air intake vents in the front apron underline the sporty and powerful look of the BMW X1. Standard equipment now also includes daytime driving lights. Also new for this model are the attractively styled 17-inch light-alloy wheels with V-spoke design. Sparkling Brown metallic has also been added to the range of exterior paint finishes available for the BMW X1.

When ordered with the BMW xLine, BMW Sport Line or the M Sport package, the surface of the instrument cluster visor is covered with soft-touch material highlighted by lapfolded seams to add to the premium elegance. The optional interior trims also embellish the interior with a choice of exclusive accents in high-gloss Black, matt Coral Red or pearl-gloss Chrome. The stainless steel sill finisher protecting the bottom tailgate edge is another refinement that distinguishes the BMW X1.

The expanded range of BMW ConnectedDrive services available in the spring of 2014 will enable the BMW X1 to strengthen its pioneering role in terms of intelligent connectivity in its vehicle segment. When ordered with a navigation system and the Connected Drive Services option, a steadily growing range of mobility services are available – owners can subscribe to them at any time, even after the vehicle purchase. The innovative functions can be integrated in the car’s operating system via apps, using the smartphone or the SIM card that is installed in the vehicle. The selected apps will be compatible with the Apple iPhone and with smartphones that run the Android operating system. Among the new services offered for the BMW X1 are Online Entertainment and the ECO PRO Analyser.

I'm tired of BMW continually doing mid-year model changes and screwing over early adopters. It would be one thing if they would roll it out in the next model year. But sounds like this is a 2014.

2013: First M-sport models didn't have paddle shifters. All early model year cars didn't have tailgate handles.

2014: Pre-august build date cars don't have M badging on fenders, and now there is a materials upgrade for the interior that sounds pretty nice, along with an electronics suite update that could be important.

All of these things de-value our cars in comparison to other late model year ones. I'm fine with the normal new model year depreciation (2014 to 2015 for example), but now bmw is adding intra-model year changes as well.

On the plus side, I'm sure I'll be able to retrofit the interior upgrades. Just will cost me $$$

Interior changes look nice. The picture of one with a manual is just mean though.

^I agree, looks like Lemans blue exterior, and obviously black interior; my favorite combination!

It's the little things that count. Love it!

Definitely will be looking into retrofitting the lower front bumper panel.

Why is it that EVERY sentence has to have marketing lingo in the press release. My head actually hurts reading this stuff trying to figure out what they actually tell you vs what the marketers want you to hear

I think in US these changes will be for 2015 model. According to Autoexpress these are available in the spring, which translates to 2015 model in US.

P.S. looks like m-sport receives the least changes comparing to other trims (can't see any changes to the trim, not sure about lower air intake). Other lines have a new strip below the trim.

If it isn't something you would otherwise notice (which I don't just based on the pictures), then it probably does not warrant a press release.

Very minor changes IMHO. Interior changes are nice, but not worth going out of your way and spending money on them to retrofit. Nice to see the X1 getting a little love though! These are probably the last of the changes before the complete overhaul and switch to FWD.

Well obviously, that's what BMW intends to do with the F48.

Anyone knows when we can start ordering it?

Lip stick on a pig

Come on, really BMW! It seems lately its cosmetic tweaks to replace real design.

Looks like more lipstick on a pig.

I feel like I am losing my religion.

Can't please everyone. Aside from it being an SUV (kinda), the X1 seems to me to be one of the most pure BMW designs available right now.

Everyone yearns and moans for an AWD, N55-powered 3 series wagon. That's essentially what this is.

I wish I had driven one before I bought my F10 last summer.

I'll let you in on a little secret about the X1... The X1 is the last BMW model to feature hydraulic steering. And that is only bc BMW can not make the current EPS fit on the X1. The next gen X1 will have EPS though.

It's only hydraulic on the xdrive, on RWD it's EPS. EPS doesn't fit w/xdrive.

I think that is also the case with the F10.

Unfortunately no it doesn't. The latest is version 4.2 I believe, which has the new interface and touchpad controller. I inquired at my dealer about an upgrade possibility but they said the hardware in the '14 X1 isn't capable of running the new 4.2 version.

Oh well! Sounds like this "updated" 2015 model might have at least some of the newer iDrive features. Although the photos still show the non-touchpad controller.
