Beauty is with each beholder, but beyond that this X1 is excellent and somewhat unique in the market. As a daily urban driver with several M's I am seriously interested as a potential owner.
Yep, these are all over Germany, and they look good. And I'd love one too, as a DD! The price is a big selling point, as I think it could be $8K less than a similar-equipped F30 328i. Obviously we'll have to wait on the configurator, but RWD + N20 + 8HP could be a pretty nice daily, IMO.

+1 on the 1er hatch - I would much rather have that here in the states than this, but I am interested. What's the curb weight, options, m-sport pkg... when do we get more info?
I don't think this car is coming with the 8at. I think it will retain the old 6 speed.

I saw one in Canada yesterday. It is well proportioned but it's missing the wheels like the merc GLK has...

front bumper redisign makes it certainly less repulsive then before...

Hmmm.. you may be right. Press release only indicates "automatic" transmission, whereas the 8HP is usually grounds enough to brag about 8 speeds/efficient dynamics/blah, blah. I guess we'll have to wait another day!

No 8HP would definitely damp my enthusiasm.

My dad has this car in India the pre LCI version. It is pretty awesome. Its the diesel though, just got it in October last year. But I think its a really good car. I have driven it through proper mountains and stuff and I had a blast. I think its the best compromise between an SUV and a sedan. Just my two cents.

I actually saw a test mule of the X1 about a year ago here in LA. Its a great looking SUV. Can't wait to see more of these on the roads.

At long last.

I am very surprised they are offering an N55 in non-M Performance trim. I realize that the 1 series offers the N55 just like its bigger brother the 3 series of course. However, there is no 1 series sedan to threaten the high volume 3 series sedan. With the X1 you basically get all the utility and power of the highest trim level X3 but at a much lower price.

Hopefully we get some news about an N47S 25d model soon.

A very busy Spring in terms of events - NYIAS , Beijing and of course M festival and MINI United.
Before you know it the 7er LCi and M6 Gran Coupe will soon be with us as will the F21 1er Sporthatch and of course the F31 BMW 3er Touring.

There was an Alpine White X6M LCi on show at Geneva but for the public days it was replaced by a Singapore Grey M5.

X1 M35i comes later as the Sporthatch comes first. We will see that in May.

About how far out is the M35i? What makes it an M35i vs the upcoming 35i?

I will be at the NYIAS on Monday, and I will let BMWNA know that it's unacceptable to not offer this with a stick. The F31 will likely run $40k with basic options. $52k loaded. There's a market for an affordable, utility performance vehicle under $40k. Many of us would love one of these with either the 28i or 35i with a stick.

It's the perfect all-weather urban runabout. These will sell hugely here in New England. But, we like manuals too.

Still no real cup holders. Curious to see how they plan to get around that here in the US.

Really liked the sliding cup holders in my e92, wonder why the x1 doesn't have something similar?

Bummer....

After reading some of the features, I'm not so inclined to purchase the X1 in it's current 28i configuration:

I think this is a deal killer for me:

"240 hp 4-cylinder engine powering the BMW X1 sDrive28i and BMW X1 xDrive28i.

Features including the Auto Start-Stop function (28i only)"

4 cylinder turbo coupled with the auto start stop function is not the ideal vehicle for a 6 mile commute on a road with lots of red lights. I'm trying to avoid similar mistakes of circumstances that I have with my E92 6MT. And if you're wondering why I got an E92 6MT if I have a commute like that, the answer is: I didn't when I made my purchase.

Additionally, this stinks too:

Regarding the BMWCCA rebate:

Ineligible Vehicles
New, non-registered vehicles in excess of 1,000 miles including company vehicles, retail demos or loaner vehicles. 3rd party brokers, lease companies, etc. do not qualify.
• Electric Active E Vehicles are not included.
• The X1 is not included.
• Pre-owned vehicles not enrolled in the CPO Program.
• Military & Diplomatic vehicles do not qualify.
• The MINI models are not included.

The Auto-Start-Stop function can be disabled by pressing a button. Unfortunately you can't disable the function per default on your own, but some "coding guys" offer this.

Canada has the 8 speed automatic so I can't imagine we would get the old 6 speed auto. I don't believe BMW has sold any vehicles with the N20 and the 6 speed auto.

the absence of N55 for E91 is somewhat addressed by X1 35i... this is great news for customers who wants the N55, needs the boot space, finds the X3 too large, and wouldn't be caught dead driving a wagon.

if this model gets introduced in Canada, i suspect base pricing will start at $43,990 + @$2,500 freight/pdi/admin... the $8,000 pricing variance sucks big time!
