2013 28i xDrive MSport with lighting package here.
Have puddle lights on doors, lighted vanity mirrors and led ambient lights in overhead console, center stack cubby and all 4 door pockets.
Last item on page 82 of manual refers to Ambient Lighting.
"Depending on equipment the lighting can be set individually for some lamps" with iDrive menu directions for selecting the desired color scheme. Ours does not have this particular menu option! Dealer unable to say if ours (or MSport's) should have this feature, or if it is limited to specific trim lines, but is checking for me. Suspects this feature is available only on X and Sport trim lines.
Will post the outcome of the investigation!!!

As for vanity mirror, this is a 2013 model, not a 1960 model - I'm not going to comb Brylcreem through my hair in the car! A USB key holder would be more practical, methinks...
You can't turn it off, from what I know, but its definitely not bright enough to distract you, just makes it look very nice at night. If it bothers you though...electric tape can solve that, just cover up the small light holes

i don't have the "ambiance lighting" feature but on my X1 35i I have both the puddle lights and overhead lights. I think the puddle lights are std w/ comfort access (read it in the brochure). From what i know, ambiance lighting adds LEDs into the door handles.

2013 x28i - have Lighting and Ultimate packages but no "line".
Got the puddle lights on the handles, lighted vanity mirrors and amber ambient lights on all door pockets, cubby and console. There is NO option in my settings to change the color of my ambient lights.

Same as my X1
