Removing and replacing side skirts

Has anyone removed and replaced the side skirts yet? Difficulty level? Is the side skirt attached with rivets, bolts etc?
I am looking to retrofit my sdrive with Xline satin side skirts. I have seen similar posts but the specific removing and attaching has not been discussed.

Any info is great, thanks

Brian

I believe I was the first to post this mod but sorry never took any pics except when I recieved the parts. I recall there are 8 torx screws at bottom then one plastic pin at each end of the front and rear wheel well, you only need to remove one at each well. I removed it in order to drop the plastic protection guard. Once these are out then you just pull the trim toward you. It has these small press in pins. It is a very easy install a 2 in my opinion of difficulty. You will need to buy the new pins through bmw or hard wear store. It's best just to get down near there and check out the screws, pretty sure it was 8 more or less and I did drop another screw believe it is an 8mm that held the guard as well. Trust me it is nothing that you will start and can't finish. I mounted everything without the pins then drove to bmw, bought the pins and installed later. Check out tisher bmw for schematics that show the parts that will pretty much show you everthing you need to know. Good luck bro

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, so will really appreciate the posting of pics of the process.
TIA.

I tried to do this mod today and found that there was more stuff inside the xline skirt which prevented it from going on the standard car..

The guy said I might need different mounting blocks ? Everything else seemed fine but the xline skirt would not go on beciase the blocks would hit some plastic inside the skirt !?

I had no problem putting on the skirts. There should be two cutaways per skirt to allow for the jack blocks. The rest of the skirt simply snaps in and you finish with torx screws

So my panel shop has done a comparison shot of both skirts

The left is the Xline skirt and the right is my standard skirt.

The Xline has extra bits in it to hold the silver bit to the black long piece.
Those extra bits on the inside stop it from mounting.

The other shots are showing the car without the skirts on.. does mine look like everyone else's?

Do i need to remove the mounting block on mine ? If I do , how does the new skirt stay on ?

The panel shop are suggesting cutting bits out of there.
What do you guys think?

It's a 2010 model.
As far as I'm aware it should be the same for all models?

I have a 2013 X1. No idea why there would be a difference. The picture showing the blocks looks very similiar to what I saw when I removed the old skirts. I had no trouble putting them on after I made sure they were not upside down

Weird..
And my xline skirts looks the same as yours ?

Right now they are trying to remove the silver bit, put on the frame of the skirt then put the silver bit back on to see if that helps

I thought X line started with the 2013 models. And the X1 was slightly changed for 2013. Minor changes. I'm in the USA and I have only seen '13 year units. If the x line skirt you are installing is for a '13 this where the difference would be? I am going to install the x line skirt soon but my x1 is a '13. Others are installing x line skirts with no trouble but they seem to be '13 x1 units.

true, in the US the X1 only came out in 2013.
But in Australia, it was released in 2010 in pre-face lift guise.
The xline was available from 2010 and from what I've been told the skirts are the same pre and post facelift.

OKAY FINALLY got it fitted!

No one told me this but the panel guy had to remove the silver part from the black frame of the skirt. That way the protruding bits in the inside so not interfere with the install of the frame

Once the frame is on.. he re-insterted (with extreme difficulty) the silver feature back in to the skirt.

Its the only way it could be done.
