you make a great point, I don't think chrome all the way around would have looked good due to the chrome roof rack, it would have taken away from the lines. Your right about one thing, it should have been shadowed out all the way around instead. It would have blended better with the roof rail, or should I say it wouldn't have contrasted as much. All in all, it's a sweet ride, I'm thinking about getting one for the wife. My only concern is that it won't fit my dog in the rear. How is the rear room for an 80lb chow chow?

V10 to a inline six must be rough, but it will pay off in the end! Congrats!

congrats on your new X1!

Mind sharing what options you ticked? Also, is it possible to get some interior shots of your new baby?
The new X1 is really growing at me at the moment, as I'm actually looking into buying a new BMW hopefully early new year, and I can't decide which one to get, the 3 series lci or X1. 1 thing I am not a fan of the X1 is that really long bonnet, it actually gives me a feeling that it's like driving a boat on the road. :s

Hi all ..

Thanks to everyone for the comments (good or bad ).
I'll try to address some of the Q's here.

X1 vs X5 ? who says X5 is better exactly? as far as I can see they are for very different markets. X1 wins it's segment, and so would the X5 win it's. Both good cars, but not comparable.

V10 vs i4 derv? I've done the V10 thing .. The world and it's occupants are tightening their belts right now for one thing. Secondly, I just don't get the use out of 10cyl. If I'd have owned that car a decade ago, it would have been great. But there's just no real point in my area right now. Shame.

Interior space? Very good. I personally don't notice the difference between the X1 and the M5 for cabin space.

Chrome door surround? Actually, if you chose High Gloss Shaddow Line, it gets rid of the chrome altogether. However, I saw it like that and it really took away from the lines. With the alu effect roof rails and sides, it really needs that chrome line to break it up (on the black at least). I personally like it and I think they did think about it and design it as such. Spec one on-line and you may see my point .. but hey, all things are down to personal taste.

M3 in the background? It was a special edition .. but I hated it to be honest. The colour was nice, the black rims were nice .. but together it didn't work for me one little bit. Sorry chaps, I didn't take any pics of it

I really love the look of this car and the design is right on key. I can't wait for the US release. Unfortunately, we might have to jump the gun on a X5 way before that.

Thanks for sharing and congrats!!

sure. it's a very nice rounded sound .. good volume. manages to create a very nice soft tone when low and in the background. Very impressed. I didn't have L7 in the M5, so can't compare. Obviously if I went to my local aftermarket shop, then it would blow it outta the water .. but as a factory fitted system I am most pleased and glad I ticked that box. I like the fact it has an internal HDD also, though I haven't played with it yet in terms of uploading audio files. I've opted for the USB/Aux input in the console using an old 60GB iPod Video.

My problem was I've always driven really small coupes. I had the 1series for 2 years but moved north into winter land and it wasn't cutting it. I was hoping to pick up a x1 which would have worked perfectly time wise. I could have extended my lease for 6 months right when the X1 would be delivered.

HOWEVER - BMW decided to delay everything and the timing didn't work. the X3 is a girls car and useless so I got the X5

I don't think there is any comparison between the two -completely different market segments.

Glad to hear you liked harman/kardon. Itīs not very much expensive than hi-fi speakers. Iīm dreaming of USB, my car has only Aux input and hi-fi speaker system. It was a demo car, so I didnīt get exactly all options what I wanted. They said in my local dealer you have to pay about $1000 to get USB with setup from aftermarket. I still think about it. Music means lot to me.
