Yup, more than one, fun car, just cant get over the "cutesy" femininity. I don't mean any harm in what I say, I just wish they had more attitude, if you have a mini and love, keep on living it...

My previous DD was a Mazda Protege5, I like the convenience in those types (hatchback) vehicles. The mini fits into that category, but I just cant get over its styling, I would love to have another BMW product but I'll probably go with a GTI or an older e46 wagon though the latter might be too big...

Not selling the ZHP to be clear, it just needs to go back to being a garage queen...

More "attitude" than a base mini, yes, but it still has those almost original dodge neon headlights. Remember that car campaign? "Hi"

Terrible Picture...

Here is some attitude...

Mmmm, had an earlier version. Nice car, bit bland and the interior quite frankly was as boring as a German boardroom. Have a Golf GT at the moment which has a more flexible engine imo. Any way this does it for me, and is probably going to be the only thing I will replace my Cooper with:

Come on now, let's be honest. Wouldn't you be quivering if you saw this in your rear-view mirror?...

Who knows? I googled Dodge Neon and this is one of the images I got!

Regarding the comment about the speedometer being in the middle, obviously this person has never driven a Mini. In the center above the steering wheel there also is a digital speedometer, I've had my Mini almost a year and never look at the center speedometer. I've owned 13 BMW's and the Mini is a solid, fun to drive car with a unique character. My only hesitation at all about the Countryman is only two seats in the back instead of a bench seat.

You're right I haven't driven it- it was in my post that I haven't, and I'm not saying its not a great little car, I'm sure it is. I didn't know there was a digi above the wheel but that doesn't save the entire stack from looking like one of flavor flav's giant clocks.

I will reserve judgement on the X1 and Countryman until I can see and drive both in the metal.

Until then, here are some more "cutsie" MINIs pictures for your viewing pleasure:

Comes down to what your needs are. MY E92 is strictly a 4 seater and it's never been an issue.

The Mini Countryman looks like something Minnie Mouse would drive (especially inside)!

I've always like Mini's, but I'm just not feeling the styling of the Countryman.

I quite like it as I have said before but then I am biased

One thing though that I am not sold on is that centre rail between the seats. Mini have said that they will be selling accessories that fit onto the rail but short of a cupholder or two (there is also a sunglass holder) I cannot think what else I would mount on it. In Europe there will be a no cost option to not have it and then with a 3-seater bench in the back.

Anyway, I am happy with my X1 order.

How about we stop the bashing and get back to the main theme of this thread which is a size comparison between the X1 and the Countryman.

Indeed, size matters

Back to the biggest MINI vs the (almost) smallest BMW

As far as I have worked it out the Countryman is smaller than my Golf+. A standard Golfs dimensions are:

Golf GT
Length 4199 mm - 13'9"
Width 1779 mm - 5'10" - exc. mirrors
Height 1480 mm - 4'10"
Wheel Base 2575 mm - 8'5"
Boot Capacity 350 litres (min)1305 litres (max)

Countryman
Length - 161.3 inches (4097 mm)
Height - 61.5 inches (1561 mm)
Width - 70.4 inches (1789 mm)
Wheelbase - 102.2 inches (2595 mm)
Cargo capacity - 350 liters

The X1's dimensions are pretty much the same as a 3-series estate. So, put a Golf next to a 3-series estate and you get an idea of the difference. Saying that the X1 feels larger, probably due to the extra height.

What an odd comparison this is

who ever figured that buyers of either cars are interested in looking over the hedge?.. No point in this at all. What's next; Freelander vs the Prius?

It seems like a very natural selection to me. Just a prequel for when BMW sells front wheel drivers with a premium over the similar Mini. The catfight here will seem like nothing by comparison.

The Countryman is growing on me, though I'm really looking forward to the Mini Roadster vs. the Z2 comparison coming up in a couple of years.

Very natural comparison, one of two will be my next vehicle. Going from X3 to Clubman S and then to a Countryman or X1.

It is relevant, roughly the same target market, like for like same price range (for the Coutryman CooperS anyway), both available in 4x4, not really any other competitor yet (not in the UK small 4x4 premium market) and to top it off from the same manufacturer.

Very relevant I would say.
