Lightbulb 19" OEM rims deal, would you do it?

1k CAN for the whole set. They are brand new. Price looks really good for me considering our low Canadian dollar right now.

I planned upgrading to 18" aftermarket rims because of added protection with potholes (roads are not really great here in Quebec) ride comfort, and cheaper tires, but these 19" look awesome.

I have an X1 28i. I know these 19" are made for M model. Do they have bigger brake rotors?

So if you were in my shoes, what would you do?

I think 19's are the perfect size for the x1. Especially if your car is not lowered or you don't plan on lowering it. The 19's in my opinion look more proportional to the size of the X1. 18's also look good, but mostly if the car is at least lowered on springs. It's a give and take. You can always try the 19's with a little fatter aspect ratio. I currently have 245/35/19 in the front and 265/35/19 in the rear. It looks like there is room for more rubber between the car and the road. Of course test fitting will ensure this.

Cool thanks for the input! I see that you ride a M model, do I have the same clearance on my 28i? I suppose so?

If I go 19", I was thinking of going 225/40/19 on all four. Does 265/35/19 in the rear fits OK?

To answer your first question, m sport package equipped x1's sit lower than other models, so you should have more clearance.

265 in the rear fit quite well, I have had zero issues with the "aggressive" offset with the wheels.

Square set ups are always nice because you can rotate the tires, as opposed to staggered set ups.

If you're concerned about ride comfort, and live in Quebec, I would NOT get the 19s. It's a big improvement in ride moving down from 19s to 18s, let alone 17s.

I went with refurbished OEM wheels via ebay. Less than $500 for all four.

I decided to go with the same 17" model as was already on my car, so this way I'm kind of self-insuring myself in case one gets damaged (we get a lot of potholes here in Colorado too).

Looks like the same exact wheels ride smooth according to this user.

Also, I think the BMW OEM 19" wheels are forged. Pretty sure they are going to be more durable to the aftermarket 18" I was looking to buy. Can anyone confirm this part? These were the 18" aftermarket rims I was looking to buy: http://www.rwcwheels.com/en/site/col...ction/bmw/bm70

Oh and bucketfoot, I also have the 17" OEM, but I'm going to use them for winter.

Seems like a good deal. You can get new wheel and tire sets at 19 inches from BMW 3200 U.S. I would think buying these rims with new run flat tires would be significantly less.

3200$ US is currently 4,428.89 CAN, so see my excitement here :P

I won't buy RFT (aiming for Michelin A/S or BF G-force), so that will probably help with smoothing the ride.

You are correct, the forged oem wheels are going to be more durable than aftermarket options. Aftermarket wheels are not terrible options. I've just read that certain brands are soft and easily damaged. I prefer the piece of mind of a quality oem wheel.

Ditto. I had Enkei's before and they warped and cracked like crazy... Never seen a rim crack before.

I saw them on kijiji. Very, very fair price!
Between 18s and 19s, the difference of comfort is negligeable (on my M-Sport). I'm on 18s RFT in winter mode and 19s in the summer.
Because of the X-Drive, the correct sizes are :
225/40/19 with 255/35/19 or 235/40/19 with 265/35/19.

If you want 245/275, choose a tire brand with round shoulders, not like PSS.

I you want 18s, I saw style 322, but don't know if all 4 are OK:

Price wise it is fine but why 19's in Quebec? The roads are absolutely DREADFUL and the stock 225/50 at least offers some rubber between you and the pock marked roads. By going to 19's you're looking at what, 225/40?

I just don't see the rationale for it, the car will handle worse and ride worse whilst looking ever so slightly better than stock.

Leave it as-is imho.

Thanks Dalco for your input, I think you can ride 225/40/19 on all 4 wheels from what I see on Tirerack, correct? I also saw these 18" on kijiji but I'm not a big fan of the look and they look pretty damaged (bent rims are not my thing).

Alfisti: I find 17" wheels too small for the X1, and I need new summer tires. I also plan to use my 17" OEM wheels for winter and was aiming for 18" aftermarket rims, but I could get these 19" OEM wheels at the same price as 18" aftermarkets.

So that's the rationale behind it. I know there is going to be less rubber around 19" wheels, but I also know that OEM wheels are made stronger than aftermarket china wheels, even if I get more rubber by going with 18".

The rears are 9'' so, 225 will look like that:


@ Alfisti:

225/45R18 sidewall height: 101mm
235/40R19 sidewall height: 94mm

Not so much difference.
With my 18'' Conti RFT winter tires, the ride is so harsh.
But, with my 19'' Michelin PSS, it rolls so soft.
43 000km and no problem at all.

too bad you didn't live closer to me. I would trade my 19" OEM M wheels with brand new tires for a set of 18" wheels in a heartbeat! Perhaps I'll go the ebay route once I figure out what it would take to ship.

Just reserved them. 1k tax in for the whole set, which is about 220$ a wheel before tax.

Honestly I couldn't even get good aftermarket rims at that price with our falling canadian dollar.

Now i just need to find good tires that give a soft ride!

@Dalco: Bit afraid of going the 235/40/19 with 265/35/19 route since it's not the recommended size. I like the idea of having a bit more sidewall rubber though!

How Wide are the 19,s F and R you are getting.
Dalco450 gave you the good Staggered Combo,s for the 19,s.
If considering Square Tire Set Up 245,s might be the Max you could go on the front Depending on Width, Offset/ET, etc.
You can compare Your Original set Up with what you are thinking about at - tirerack - 1010tires - or - willtheyfit.
9"Wide was mentioned. The Recommended for those are. MIN.235 - IDEAL.245/255. - MAX.265. I have 255,s on my 9"rears.

8" Recommended Specs. MIN.215 - IDEAL.225/235 - MAX.255.

My Original SQ.17x7.5 with RF 225/50/17, and 34 Offset.
NOW 18"x7.5 F and 35 Offset c/w 225/45/18 Non RF PSS. REAR is 9" and 40 Offset c/w 255/40/18 PSS.
Had to settle for 7.5" Front because of the wheels I wanted. Next is Drop on H&R Springs, maybe Coilovers and Next Tyre Change will probably be 235F and 265R.

I live in Country Area and like you, Roads are Bad that's why I went with 18", which gave me no lower than 40 Profile. I was even going 19's but ones I liked, only 18 or 20. SO enjoy your 19's and with 40 Profile up front should be enough to take most hits, unless you drive most of the time at Warp Speed Haha.

Your 225/40/19 F and 255/35/19 R is a good safe choice BUT also consider 235F with 265R Combo depending on your offsets.

Just an Extra on sizing - I spoke with VMR and a 8.5"F, 35 Offset c/w 235's and 9.5"R,33 Offset c/w 265's with being slightly lowered also would suit/fit my X1. Just indicating as a Reference Only.
I was going to get these IF i could sell the 4x 18x7.5 i got from USA but No Takers SO i got 2x 18x9 for the back. Obviously now have 2x7.5"as Spares.

Hi OP, 2 cars ago I had an E89 Z435 and was able to purchase a complete set of OEM M-sport package used wheels (in like new condition), oem rft and TPMS for $1200 + shipping.

Personally, I don't think $1k for wheels only is a smoking deal, but then again, I just got my x1 and don't have a sense for how often OE wheels come up for sale and what they go for when they do
