i literally ordered my 2014 x1 last night and am feeling a bit nauseous.

how different is connected drive vs the bmw apps and bmw online that I'm getting on the 2014 w ultimate package?

should i consider canceling (if i even can?)? i already put down a $1000 payment to place the order from Germany

I wouldn't sweat it. It certainly seems like it will just be a software update for 2015MY and as people have stated in this thread, it should be relatively simple for you to update yours. Keep in mind though that this is just in theory--BMW has provided zero details on what the improved ConnectedDrive actually is.

None of the changes are things you should lose sleep over, and you likely got $1k of incentives that won't be available on the 2015 model for several months at least.

I don't see anything new on the 2015 model year changes that gives me anything but a yawn. Leave your order in place, start the agonizing process of waiting for your BMW to go through build and shipment before you get your hands on it. Once you start driving your X1 you won't even remember what was different between these model years. This is a truly fun car to drive. A few trim differences and a couple of upgradable ConnectedDrive features are really small potatoes.

I was wondering.. If I place an order today, then it will take a few weeks to go into production. So will it be a MY2014 or MY2015?

MY2015 production starts next month so that is what it will be.

Thanks. But when I place the order through a dealer, it's for a 2014. So I'll get MY2015 for MY2014 price?

We ordered ours this time last year Feb 2013 and it was all based on MY2014 options and pricing. So I expect it would be MY2015 options and pricing.

Thanks. I think i will just go ahead and order it. There no difference for my2015 anyway. Unless i care about resale value being "1 year" newer.

Well, you can't say there are *no* differences. How much the changes are worth to you is of course totally subjective. I really like several of the improvements (front lip, stitched soft touch instrument cluster hood, stainless steel hatch threshold, updated CD) and decided I wanted MY2015, even if it meant waiting a couple extra weeks and paying a smidge more.

Changes detailed here: New accents for the BMW X1 http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=923577

Could someone summarize the iDrive/ConnectedDrive differences for 2015? From my first reading on this, it seems that 2015 gets the "touch" controller. But are there other features that simply won't be available on the 2014 version? Or is most of the new capability coming via software update?

My 2014 just hit Halifax. Am I making a mistake relative to short changing myself on the tech features?

Thanks,
Tom

As mentioned earlier in this thread, it's almost a certainty that it won't include the new 'touch' iDrive, as those only appear in Fxx cars, and iDrive isn't mentioned at all in the release I linked to. And I haven't seen any solid source of info about what exactly the changes are to CD, except, essentially, 'more..'

So forgive the newb question - but for CD, is the "more" usually software upgradable?

Thanks for the help!

Hey Tom, if you read back midway through this thread, you'll see I had the same question which was thoroughly replied to. But the short answer is, yes, it appears very likely that older versions will be updatable to the new one.

Thanks - I'll behave better once I'm past the nervous nellie phase of tracking a ship containing my car. This has been a fun process, however! I've appreciated these forums. Good stuff.

The link includes the following quote: "The innovative functions can be integrated in the car’s operating system via apps, using the smartphone or the SIM card that is installed in the vehicle. The selected apps will be compatible with the Apple iPhone and with smartphones that run the Android operating system."

I interpret the ability to load apps to be a new feature, and (recognizing this is complete speculation), my guess would be that that ability would *not* be a software only feature (meaning that there is some qualitative difference that pre-2015 models will not be able to upgrade to.) It sounds like a nice idea, but given BMW's history of upgrading software and phone apps, I also wouldn't get all that excited about it because BMW does not upgrade this stuff often. For example, there are still no updates for IOS 7 after how many months?

So, what I'm saying is, if that new capability is important to any of you, you would likely be safer to wait for the 2015's. Even then, it would not be beyond BMW for early 2015's to NOT have the feature and for it to show up *after* the model year changeover. This happened with my 2011 335d which missed a running software change introduced a couple of months after the start of the model year.

If is frustrating that BMW is consistently so vague about this stuff, but that's something that doesn't seem likely to change.

I know there will be some minor changes. I guess the question is, is it worth the $1-2K price over 2014?

$1k more off makes some sense due to incentives on 2014 models, but after that, I can't see any reason a dealer would offer a higher discount in a 2014 order vs a 2015 order.

Put my order in on Monday and my awesome CA emailed me today to say that I have their first 2015 x1 allocation. Should have a VIN number in not too long.

Pricing details here: http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...78&postcount=7

Let the waiting begin! Time to go re-read the entire manual again on my iPad mini

Heard from my CA today—my '15 entered production yesterday, a week before they had scheduled the switchover to 2015 MY, wooo! Scheduled to be completed March 3rd, no question I'll have one of the first '15 models in the US, which I'll enjoy greatly for the week or so it lasts

And, yes, I got the VIN and checked it and it checks out as 2015 model.

I imagine the factory isn't going to have the line doing two model years at once, so it seems like from here on out: adios to 2014 MY.

my 2015 x1 finished production on Monday, waiting at port now as of today. Hoping it gets on the Turnadot which leaves Bremerhaven in 7 days.

Estimated arrival in Port Hueneme would be 4/8 and ready for pick-up in Portland on 4/17ish. Fingers crossed.

The BMW USA website updated today to make the x1 a 2015 model. New options and photos in the build your own tool: http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...modelcode=15XA

Glad I got a 2014, not thrilled with the front air dam update on the 2015, at least in photos.
