Service interval
My first three BMWs had a 15000 service interval for oil and filter change. My 2013 X1 was set for 13000 miles. My 2015 X1 is set for 10000 miles. When I hit 700 miles, it dropped to 9000 miles. I guess BMW is figuring out that these new turbo engines need more frequent oil changes.

Remember, the computer that determines when the oil is changed is not just based on mileage, but also on the style of driving you do. Then, again I think you're on the right track with the turbo on any car requires more frequent oil changes.

Agreed, the intervals are set on amount of fuel consumed. But they did lower intervals last year, seven years after they started seriously expanding turbo offerings.

I still would never rely on BMW intervals. Get your oil changed sooner, you'll thank me in 100k miles.

Condition Based Service.. mine is averaging every 10K miles for oil change (I do my own oil change in between to make it a 5K mile oil service for the turbo)

They changed the service interval for 2015 X1's. It is 10,000 miles on the 2 series so it will be plus or minus 1,000 miles from the 10,000 based on how you drive. Yes they figured it out.

My first oil change was at 4500 miles. It currently states my second one will be at 8000 miles. If you are getting 15k miles between oil changes perhaps you are driving like an old lady. Try driving in sport mode once in a while.

Replacing my oil every 5000 km. one oil change free from BMW, one I pay for it and so on. My first oil change was when the vehicle had 1000km and I did that for each car I ever owned. There are litle particules that need to be pulled out.

I do not drive like no grandma...push my X1 pretty hard. But the oil change indicator on 2013s is set to 16,000 miles. Drops to 10,000 miles 2014. Dealer would not budge on this. Will not use him going forward.

My 2014 was one month shy of being built to the new intervals, my dealer wouldn't budge on the intervals for my car either. 24000 KM is way too long between oil changes no matter what oil you use and how you drive. I just pay for one every 5000 anyways. It's not like it breaks the bank.

It's not a retroactive deal, if you have BMW's from an earlier time you are screwed.

Actually, it should love me. The old oil is sent by the dealership back in proper conditions. Plus I tend to keep my cars for 5-7 years, sometimes more, I actualy think I help the environment. Fresh oil means lower emissions too.

You will see that mine is a diesel. My BMW recommended from new was every 2 years or 24 to 30,000 Km's because of the high standard of oil they use. I understand they have now lowered this. I rang Castrol Tech. Dept. long time back and even though they agreed oil was good for 2 years they said it would be better to change yearly. Sales pitch or not I've always had mine changed at yearly service, around 12,000 Km's.
Oil used on BMW Invoice showed 5.2 LTRS and charged around AUD$200. Out of Service Oil Change is AUD$350. My Warranty runs out end of this year and I will be doing my own changes. Q.) Next I will be doing less Km's and I believe if your car isn't driven much, You should change your oil even more frequently. Of all the oil change forums I've seen when they say drain oil, presumably on level surface or ramps etc. Stupid or not my Questions are. 1) Via Dipstick, how is the best way to check oil, presume level surface. A. Engine cold. B. Engine warm or hot. 2) What is the 1'st thing done. A. Do you just change the oil when cold, OR B. Do you warm the engine up 1'st. I realize that if you use ramps that oil will be mixed through and warm. Do you warm it up a bit more or wait for it to cool on ramp before changing. The above Questions might be funny to some but I want to make sure I drain the Maximum amount of oil. Don't be to hard on me Guy's. |

I took my 2013 X1 with 6,715 km on it in to have the winter tires installed and requested an oil change. The SA said that was no problem and that the computer was showing I was due for a brake fliud service and new micro filter in Febuary, so he would do those services now to save me a trip back to the dealership.
I ended up with an X1 because of the great service my wife was getting on her 2012 128, and I have not been disappointed with the car or the dealership (who is the only BMW dealer for a few thousand kilometres). The new building that they just moved into is designed so that the customer lounge looks directly into the service bays so that you can get a coffee and watch your car being serviced. |

Drive your car on to ramps after engine is warmed up, but wait 30-60 minutes so you don't burn your hand. While oil drains change oil filter if you can reach. Pour in recommended amount, and check that about that much came out. Move car off ramp, and recheck dipstick hot or cold. Next time it's cold before starting recheck dipstick to confirm oil level. |

Sounds like diesels come with a dipstick? Maybe the other countrys get them, but here in the US the 28i's don't have dipsticks. The oil level gauge is electronic. I miss having a temperature gauge more.
