My car was hit while parked - transmission question.
Hi everyone.
My X1 got hit today while it was parked. I did not engage the parking brakes. I came back to my car and saw it on the sidewalk - roughly 20 feet from where it was parked. My rear end damaged and my passenger wheels are messed up from hopping the curb. One wheel also looks like it has a few degrees of negative camber. Luckily the other party was still there and very cooperative when I arrived. I had to start the car and drive it back onto the street. There were no problems. So I decided to drive it home instead of waiting for a tow truck. As I was driving, I was thinking how far my car moved while it was parked. I am not sure what I should do. Driving home, there were no problems. It felt very normal. But I am afraid there are things I can not see or will not surface till later on. Any idea on what I should do? I am taking it to a body shop in a couple days but I am not sure if they would look for hidden issues, like in the transmission or suspension. I thought getting my first door dent will put me past the baby stage. This is quite the jump! Thanks in advance. |

If it's an insurance issue (the guilty party's insurance, presumably) then by all means have everything checked out - especially alignment, etc..

Can up your dealership and ask if they do this sort of work or if they have a list of approved body shops. If you end up going with a different shop that BMW doesn't approve then they might blame you next time you get warranty work done.

Given the damage you have described I would not have driven the car and waited for the tow truck. At this point if there is damage you could get into a pissing match about whether it was from the hit or from you driving it.
At this point, I would suggest that you do not drive it anywhere but to the dealer for an inspection. |

Thanks everyone. I will be calling the dealership in a moment.
It is odd because it seems like the car was actually rolling. There are no flat spots on the tires or marks on the ground. Is that to be expected? |
