I agreed with all the points made in this.

I was looking for a more practical replacement for my e93. Daily driver in Wisconsin. I thought about a small crossover like a he Subaru for practically. Then, with the help from this forum, I stumbled upon the the e84.

It is much more enjoyable than a crossover, but still practical. It never wavered in its first winter up north.

She's tuned, xHP, and a throttle enhancement. I swapped out the 19" sport tires for some MPS a/s 18". While I mis the responsiveness, it makes my travels much more enjoyable.

Yes that’s a good site- unfortunately he hasn’t posted any updates to the project car since 2020.

I beg to differ about ditching M sport 19” wheels for 18’s. My 19” staggered wheels with pilot sport 4S’s provide a perfectly civilized quiet ride when not pushed but make a world of difference in performance when driving hard. They work well in everything but snow and rocky dirt roads. I bought a second set of 18” wheels (OZ Alleggeritas) with Blizzaks for winter driving and when I expect to be driving a significant amount on rough roads. They’re a blast for that but feel really mushy around corners on pavement. I can’t recommend having 2 sets of wheels for this car enough, why not spend $2-3k more to make an already good car great all the time? Alternatively I’ve run Conti DWS 06’s on the staggered 19’s for year round driving which was an OK compromise but just meh compared with my current options. Only takes me 30 min to swap out wheels with a cheap craftsman floor jack in my garage.
Since there is no spare I carry a repair kit and cigarette lighter plug compressor, but I’m nearly always within range of AAA. I WILL NOT run run-flats.

Not to turn this into a wheel thread but but, I have the 18" M wheels now. and I have the 19th staggered at the wheel shop getting refinished. I plan on doing exactly the same as what you are doing. one set of rims for Winter/off road And another set for summer/canyoning.

It's a great platform. Last ultimate driving machine... gave mine to my daughter. She still autocrosses it...JB4 and Alpina tune...MSport ultimate...

My daughter drove a new 5 series for 3 months while X1 was sidelined for airbag recall... she couldn't wait to get it back...

I think he's wrong about the only the Msport package including the oil cooler. I have the sport package and have the oil cooler as well. I think Msport just included stiffer suspension that should be removed anyways and paddle shifters.

So you're saying you prefer the standard suspension over the m-sport suspension?

I think you're right about the oil cooler, it's standard on m-sport, but still an available option for non-m sport models (just not standard). I think I read somewhere that destination geography is a factor for the oil cooler - areas where it gets hot get oil cooler, cooler geographies don't?

Also, m-sport has different front bumper, rocker panels, and some of the trimmings on the rear of the car as different, too.
