Trunk lid struts

The wife have been complaining how hard the trunk lid is to lift and close...to me it function normally, due to I did test another 2014 X1s trunk lid and it felt the same as our X1, until I did try a 2015 X1s it was twice as light to open and close the lid. Question: Since the 2015 has different type struts and P/N and the diameter of the shafts are thicker, I did checked the support brackets plus checked the length of the struts, they are the same. Could I install the 2015 struts for the 2014?

thanks

I believe so. Didn't realise there was any difference with the 2015 model. Check realoem.com for part numbers - if the links are the same I don't see why not.

Let me know how it goes, my wife doesn't like the weight of the lid as well. Alternatively you can install aftermarket automated system to lift the lid on key press. But that's well north of $500

The 2014 X1 oem P/N is 51242990136, the 2015 x1 oem P/N is 51247402695.

I'm going to bite he bullet and order the (2015) struts and see if they fit or not hoping they will make the trunk lid lighter to open/close more Kudos to me if they do.

I did take measurements between opening and closing to my knowledge they should fit, same with the support brackets. I'll post either way.

Finally I did received the trunk lid struts (From Germany) BMW Dealers here are asking over $100 per strut. It took 5 minutes to replaced the 2014 X1 with the 2015 X1 struts. Wife couldn't believe how easy was to open and close the trunk lid.

I did mentioned on another Forum all the accessories I have been installing in her X1 since new (She told me to stop with the Trunk lid Struts) Here is the list: Paint protection film, Seat covers, Costume mats, Rocker Xline sill, Trailer hitch, Roof rack Cross bars, GPS, Radar detector, Tint all windows, and trunk lid struts.
