Automatic Xdrive 18d?

I'm having really bad time with my delivery (complained about that already in a couple of threads), and was offered some alternatives.

The best alternative ( even though without xline ) is Automatic Xdrive 18d for abouts 38,500EUR.

Now my main worry is how well does automatic work with Xdrive on 18d engine?

Any experience with that please??

Thanks!

Take it ) It works as charm, not as good as 20d but still I would choose automatic anyway on any engine ... MT for me is no go today in any car... hehe.

I only heard "not as good as 20d" in that post

Oh and in the meanwhile the seller offered XLine installment at no extra cost! I just hope they install it ok without it producing any squeeking sounds, or it falling off the car. :|

And I confirmed the order. So if anybody has anything bad to say about Auto 18d xDrive, lie to me and say it's the best thing in the world!

if you are not in traffic on a regular basis the manual would be fine but 6 speed man in traffic i find is a pain i think more speeds in the geabox are for milage mainly so when things went from 5 speed to 6 speed i went from man to auto i do not want a 6 speed man except on the open road and winding roads with not much traffic [stop start] my 20 d sdrive is magic in auto richard

Not driven the 1.8 in auto but did test drive it in manual form. It has plenty of power and pretty impressive torque. My wife also drove it and had to be convinced that it was in fact a diesel and not a petrol. I have the 2.0 in auto and the auto shift is great. I am a big fan of manual boxes but this auto is very good. Fantastic in city driving and if you feel the urge on a windy mountain road you can always use the manual shift triptronic.

I see you have a 1.8 s30, well performance should be about the same but you will notice more low down torque in the X1. Also your fuel bill will probably be 40% less.

Ps: You do know of course that X1 1.8d is in fact also a 2.0l diesel?

(Sorry for the extra post rather than an edit but my Ipad is a bit fiddly )

It is better with auto on diesel models due to the high values of torque compared with petrol engines.

Sorry I was not clear about it but all I ment is 20d is better in terms of more HP and Torque ) To be honest its still not enough for me so mine will get a chip to 210HP and 410nm of Torque in less then a year ...

Other then that go for it, you won't regret it at all.

I drove 318d Auto and it was great combo, drove 320d Auto as well for comparison and the only difference was those extra HP...

Once you go Auto you never look back ... at least I am not looking back I just want 8-speed Steptronic in my next car which might be next generation of 3 series wagon ... we will see :P

Thanks guys for your opinion. The problem is that I went to war with the seller. He changed our deal and asked me to give him my current car in advanced, or more money. He offered that we would pay 50/50 for rent-a-car until X1 arrives. I sent him to hell and contacted my lawyers so they're dealing with it now.

I do hope to get my 20% prepayment back so I can order it from a F real seller that can sell the car without going trash on me.

So all in all, that was a total bust and waste of time. Hopefully not money.

I'm leaning toward something like sDrive 20d Automatic now. Hated the idea of Auto until a few days ago, and now I love it. Go figure... To combo xDrive into it is too much cash for me atm as I want some eq in the car too.

SDrive 20d is the best compromise in my view. Auto gearbox or stickshift is a matter of choice, but don't regret the XDrive18d automatic, it would have been a bit short on agility and overtaking power.

Yeah for picking, it wouldn't be my choice. Auto xD 18d. But yeah sD 20d sounds cool. xD 20d even cooler

But my current Volvo C30 1.8i has 10,8s to 100km/h. So even sD 18d is going to be impressive for me. 1.2s faster. 20d is a race machine for me. Surely much more fun, but as my second car, I believe I deserve 18d for now, money wise.

God knows what I'll order in the end, and if I'll get my prepayment back from the saloon. If I don't get it, and it's likely I wont, my purchase is then on a long pause.

Yep, 0-60 numbers are a good indicator. But frankly in my experience, below
9s it's not really a kick-in-the butt type of sensation, and the 18d is more in the 9.8. An XDrive 18d is not gonna make you feel a hell of difference from your Volvo.

The XDrive 23d clocks at 7.4s, which makes you start to feel the Gs !
Acceleration is another important factor... 50 to 70, 70 to 90 etc... to have an idea of a car behavior in taking over. I don't have the numbers for the X1 various versions, but it might be worth a look.

Well it certainly depends on whos butt we're talking about. I'm sure I'd be quite pleased with 18d sD in such terms. For a few years. Well that's the point. If I want a car that I wont want to sell after 2 years, I should get 20d. I'm already losing a few grand EUR on early sale of my Volvo C30. So it's almost that I would save money if I spend more now. Actually, it is a reasonable assumption.

xD 23d is a spaceshuttle for sure. That must be a whole different experience. I didn't deserved that kind of a spend yet.

And yes there are numbers for overtaking:

Accel 80-120 km/h > 4 / 5 Gear

sD 18d > 8.2s / 10.9s
sD 20d > 7.0s / 8.9s
xD 18d > 8.7s / 10.2s
xD 20d > 7.2s / 9.1s

Quite a nice difference on 20d sD and 18d sD.

Strangly enough, there are no numbers for 23d. But I don't want to know... And no numbers anywhere either for C30 1.8i.

Hi Tompak, The X1 2.3d is a 2.0l engine and the 525d has a 3.0l engine. Will be a huge difference. One can only hope that they will eventually see the light and bring the X1 out as a 3.0d Or even better yet as a X1 3.35d , with quad pipes

Seriously, if they bring the X1 out with a 3.0d I would genuinely consider it.

PS: I think there is space in that huge engine bay for a 3.0d. Don't know what they are waiting for. Maybe the new 400bhp 3.0d......?

I wouldn't mind either !

However I'm wondering if there is a market for the X1 Crossover with a huge engine.... I mean besides you and me of course..
