Fuel consumption on xdrive 20d auto
Hi all
I just want to check what your fuel consumtion figures are like in mpg. I bought my x1 xdrive 20d auto the 18th November 2010. Love the car, great in snow and so far great but, a bit concerned regarding fuel as the figures provided by BMW don't seem quite right (36 mpg urban). I don't know if any of you is having the same experience. My driving so far has been around town with a very occasional use of the motorways. These are my figures: average speed: 22.8 mpg: 32.1 total mileage: 1600 Thanks |

Not surprising, although fuel consumption (unless totally out of whack which would indicate an engine problem) is no concern of mine, and I never bothered checking.
Might give you an indication : with my SDrive 20d I clock approx 900 kms on a single full tank. You do the math. I even reached close to 1100 kms last Fall, when aircon is not needed and with my driving style (call it conscious eco-driving!) Driving style is always the key though.. I could probably bring it down to 12 miles a gallon if I drove it like my company car for which I don't pay for gas..

I am not sure about the D.P.F (diesel particle filter), fitted to X1, but earlier BMW'S used to clog up with soot in low temperatures and especially with short travelling distances and a constant run speed for 50 miles restored mpg and performance , worth a try ??

Many of the first diesel engines equipped with particule filters (circa 2006/2007) clogged up if not run regularly on highway. This has been fixed by most manufacturers.

That's what I always thought - if during the week you're only doing short runs keep away from a diesel.
But the thing is that BMW don't really produce really efficient 4-cyl petrol engines - VW/Audi et al have long overtaken them in this regard with their direct-injection supercharged/turbocharged petrol 4s. In fact a new 6-cyl 523i beats the 4s on all fronts! The 2.0ls in the sDrive18i I've ordered and in the 3-series are about 5 years behind technologically. However they will make the leap with the new 3. |
