Lightbulb S drive to x drive

Hello,
I own a bmw x1 s drive 2d. In India BMW is only selling the two wheel drive option. I want to change my s drive to x drive and make it all wheel drive. I am not concerned about millage drop by doing so. Primarily Is this possible ?

Nothing is impossible.
Basically, you would need to change the whole powerplant/drivetrain and front axle assembly. Not to mention the various controls.
Would probably cost as much as a new car. Just doesn't make sense, like buying an overcoat when you actually wanted a business suit and have it retailored.

Yep, anything is possible if you throw money at it but as Sam says you would need to replace the gearbox, front suspension, rear differential (possibly rear suspension ?) and then re-program the car. BMW would probably not do it for you either so a 3rd party job would invalidate the warranty on your new car. With the price of spares I would say that the only route would be:

1. Sell the SDrive.
2. Fly to Oz
3. Import a new XDrive

Or

Spend £1000 and put on a nice set of offroad tyres, you would be amazed at the difference this can make.

Mario, this sounds interesting to me...I have an sdrive and I would prefer more offroad abilities especially for beach sand and rocky roads. Is this gonna make a huge difference? Suppose they are not available in run flats?

Hi Karthik,

Why do you want to go for all wheel drive, do you seriously plan to go for off roading in X1?

I have X1 s20D and it has a superb engine to give you most of the grunt you want out of it and I am sure you will not miss all wheel drive.
