Dear BMW, Please build an X1M!

Just saw the press release for the new M3/4. Wow!

Its based off the N55 engine...

So if they put the engine, power train, cooling, exhaust, etc in an X1 and maybe even some CF and M suspension goodies?

430 hp (the new engines output) would give it around 9/1 hp/wt and performance on par or better than a X5/6M! It would not be a threat to any other car/SAV in their lineup. If they "bump" up the X5/6M this could be a real option. Too bad they probably won't do it.

I love my X1 and the Dinan splits the difference between a "stock" X1 and a "stock" X5/6M.
I still love the big X-M SAVs, but they are an anachronism. My SRT8 Jeep ate gas, tires, etc at an alarming rate for the same reason. 5400 pounds just isn't as efficient as 3900 pounds...
Add in the MSRP of an X5/6 M being $100,000+ with reasonable options and I think many of us would gladly pay, for a loaded up model, say $60,000+ for a 430+hp, sub 3900# X1M SAV....

Thoughts?

Not going to happen. Probably will see an X4 M though but even that's not guaranteed. Figure you have another year at least until the M4 series coupes and convertibles are really out and production is ramping up and the X1 will be nearing to end of its life cycle going to a front wheel drive. More importantly is that they don't even offer a 3.0 in Europe and Europe sells a lot more X1's than the US.

And the xdrive35i beats than the new RS Q3, which would actually be the closest X1M competitor, in many performance areas anyway.

No.
It is not M worthy. M needs to be pure. The X5 and X6M are also a disgrace for the M division.

I think talking too much about germanic purity might be going too close to a Godwin's Law.
