Wheel spacers
I have a 2014 Sdrive with the sport pack, which has the 18 inch 8J 421 style rims. I like the style of the wheels but not fond on how tucked in the wheels are in the rear. Does anyone have a similar setup with wheel spacers. It would help me decide if I should do this, thanks

Lots use wheel spacers. I hate them and think they're cheesy, but they'll work. Probably need to run 12mm or 18mm depending on how extreme you want to go. You may as well do the fronts at 5 or 12 too

Thats what i'm worried about, the spacers will just make it stick out more than what I have at the moment, but not give the rear wheels the width that i'm looking for. Probably should get wheels that are 9J at the back with an offset that brings the rear sidewall with the body... unfortunately the BMW stock wheels in 9J don't bring out the whhels far enough.

I picked up 10mm front and 15mm rear spacers from another forum user, and that did a nice job, but the rear 225's still look puny back there. 9" wheels with 255's or larger is the right answer long term.

You can look up pictures of my car. It has 10" rears with 265 rubber and a big offset.

X1 Front and Rear track
If you go to X1 build page and click on specs on left, you'll see diagram of track dimensions which show the rear with 1.1 inch more than front.
People seem to like 12mm front (10mm has lip problem sometimes)and 15mm rear for looks. I have the 9x18 rears which are 2.1 inch more than fronts, and still don't look flush. However, I go to the track and can feel how to tune suspension, so I just put 12mm on fronts to minimize the high speed sway. Now the track difference is only 1.2 inchs, and drives much better. If you have to have the 15mm on the rears for looks it's up to you, and will be about what I have in stagger. I think I'd keep the balance you have with square tire setup with 12mm all around( or course 3mm more on rears is nothing). I bought Burger motorsports spacers, and they were very high quality. No vibration even up to 130mph. |

The spacers you refer to is what I was thinking, 12mm for the front 15mm for the rear. I want the rear to look fairly flush with the body without it looking silly when looking at the rear.
I've also looked for 18" rims that are 9J in the rear, but cannot find ones that have a lowish offset around 30. Most rims I've found have an offset of 40+ which doesn't puts the rims flush with body. |

I have the 19" M-sport rims and tried 15mm/20mm f/r. I think the front is fine but the rear looks too protruded. Part of that is because the rear of the vehicle curves inward. Even though the rim may still be slightly tucked or flush, you can see a heck of a lot of tire. Looks ghetto. Will try 12mm/15mm f/r next. Don't seem to have any problems with cheapie Ebay spacers.

He bought 10mm and 15mm spacers from Burger Motorsports, and said they vibration free so I bought Burger spacers. His X1 looks good. but I don't care about that, I want better performance. My X1 has great looks either way. Also, by putting 12mm only on front, I noticed I can apply power faster around a corner. The stock excess 2.1 rear track allows the car to put enough pressure on inside rear to kick in traction and kick out power for a second or two. So on the track I tried traction off, and the left tire would over rev, and not necessarily help launch. Now the rear is only 1.2 inch more track than front. |
