Possible new member, asking advice

Hello,

I am in talks with a local dealer on a used 2014 jet black x1 x drive. It has the following features:

Tech package
Cold weather package
Moon roof
Power seats (no leather)
6633 miles
MSRP new is ~39k
Warrenty good till 5/2017

http://www.bmwedison.com/used/BMW/20...fb248c5410.htm

Listed for sale at 35,995 they came down to 33,995, I got 9k for my trade in (may go in and ask for more tomorrow) and financing at 2.04% over 60 months. Asking opinions on value based on your purchasing experiences. I put down money to hold it, scheduled to pick it up tomorrow so quick responses would be appreciated.

Excited and nervous at the same time. Thanks in advance.

Is this the 28i? I built a 28i with exactly what you have written down and the MSRP I get is $36,025. So price seems right on. Getting the 2k off is good since you are financing through the dealership, so they'll recoup interest back. Both parties are happy.

For me however, I'd have to have the lighting package. Some people can live without it though.

I got $38,720 MSRP which matches the $39k. $36k listed above is probably invoice (see bmwconfig.com). So yeah they are offering $2k off invoice. While a '14 I would probably offer them less just to see what they might say.

That said are the options the ones you want and the ones not there are you okay with out. The lighting is quite nice.

What is your trade? That's probably where they are making the majority of their money.

The lighting package is something I'm very interested in along with the tech package and power seats. However the only used BMW s around me are usually fleet vehicle and do not have the lighting package. However it is something I can live without until the Warrenty runs out at which point I will probably do a true hid retrofit (something I did on my truck).

Truck is the trade in. 2006 Toyota Tacoma access cab 4 cylinder 2wd with 72000 miles. Yes, a strange configuration for a pick up. Kbb lists it at 10k for trade in fair condition. Is in pretty good shape but also has about $1000 worth of added features (bed cover, water proof seat covers, all weather mats, bed mat) all of which I'm sure they don't care about but if that's the case I would take them off and sell them myself.

All in all I don't think I would sleep well with the current deal that's in place, just because of the value of the trade in. Negotiating time...

IMHO, if you want the best price possible sell the trunk yourself do not trade it in.

No Sport Seats...no deal!
But, other than that, it's a nice looking X1

I'd pull all the extra stuff off the truck and run it by CarMax if you have one nearby. They regularly beat dealer offers. However, if it has too many miles on it they wont' show any interest in it. Same goes if it's been in an accident. Worth a shot for sure.

Garage List
Doing a lighting retro will cost more than what they're worth if you buy new. I'd say save a few bucks until you can afford exactly what you want

FWIW. I purchased an 2013 X1 in October... Loaded 35i with 9600 mi and 40 months remaining on warranty miles stickered at over $48K, MSport, Ultimate, etc. their asking was $43,900 and i paid a bit over $36K plus TTT

Get one with xenon lights...Also try for your own financing I got mine 1.99%

You can do better. Start at invoice and then figure all the BMW incentives that are available...Then add $500 to that, that is your starting point from the "MSRP" number..

Then deduct 16 to 20 cents a mile and about $200-$300 a month depreciation from in service date...That should be your max price...

I'd consider selling the truck yourself, or at the very least, sell to a dealer at a later time so that they can't play the math games with trade in value/ cost of the BMW, and financing.

I'd also give a test drive of an X1 with the sport seats before you buy just to see if it makes a difference to you. I drove a stock X1 and then one with sport seats and it was an eye opener to me. Really sold me on the car.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I got an extra $500 on the trade and stripped out the things I added, probably going to get ~ $900-1000 out of the items I removed from my truck.

Payments are below what I set my limit at and I am very happy with the lights without the hid's. Even more happy with the engine in this thing. Now to spend the next week getting to know the I drive.

If this is a CPO vehicle, I believe that the warranty should be 6 years/100M miles. The 5/2017 date should pertain to the included scheduled maintenance if the vehicle was originally put into service 5/2013.

IMHO. if it's not a CPO vehicle, you should be able to negotiate a better deal.

Congrats on the new purchase. Your car is similarly equipped to mine, but you have a couple more features. To keep my payments low, I went against my normal habit of loading up a vehicle and instead got my X1 pretty stripped. I just added the Tech & Lighting packages. I'm finding that I love the car and don't seem to miss much else. The large sunroof would have been nice, but I find I rarely open them and just like to have the extra light, so I decided I could live without it.

As for not getting leather, this is the first time I decided to try the leatherette, and I'm finding I really like it. It looks like it will wear much better as it is a bit more stiff than leather. I'll admit that the leather looks nicer, especially in non-black colors. But so far I've had the car about 6 weeks, and every single person who is been in the car, I've asked them all how they like the leather, and none have said that they don't think it's leather.

You did really well on the price. I got about 4k off MSRP, but mine was an ordered vehicle. Seems like you did a little better which is to be expected for taking one off the lot. Enjoy!
