For 28i models, I think 8 gears are too many to shift manually on a regular basis because the gears are too close and there are too many shifts. The main use for street driving is to downshift just before passing someone or changing a lane on a freeway. You can achieve the same result by putting the car in sport mode, just moving the shift lever to the left drops a gear or two, so you will be ready to take off.

If I was going to order the car I would get it for $120 it is a no brainer. But if you can save a big chunk by buying off the lot that money can be spent better elsewhere.

I use the paddles a fair amount of time; nice country roads. Otherwise for highway I leave it in normal drive mode.

Not to get too off topic, but has anyone installed a BMW Performance steering wheel yet?

I installed on in my 135i (non electronic version). I loved it. Very easy to install: you need a small screwdriver to release the airbag clips, a 19mm (I think) socket to remove the wheel, and some patience with the electronic connectors.

Can you please post whatever documentation you have here? I want to do the upgrade eventually.

If I ever drive in sport mode, I always use the paddle shifters because the OEM shift points for sport mode suck.
