the M package is a marketing exercise, its simply a sport package when it isn't entirely cosmetic... the "M performance" cars are another story - there trying to get some of the marketing position audi's S cars have while the true M cars compete with audi RS (more or less)

I find the added M badge disrespectful. The engineers and designers worked hard to create an M car. You in a way are stealing from them.

HAHAHAHA you have got to be kidding me... all of these M homers on here are redonkulous.... Amusing but Redonkulous at best... Who cares what some one does to their own car that they pay for... if they want to put an X5 badge on their 135i let them. if you want to put 135i onto a 1972 2002 tii go for it... Who and what gives anyone here the right to say anything about someone elses car that they pay for..? Just saying... I guess he did ask for it. Flame away! Please keep going I think it is hilarious.

The OP was asking for opinions about badge or not and people are responding, not sure if that is considered flaming? Some replies are not exactly respectful though I agree

I agree instead of saying it looks nice but i wouldn't do it is one thing, tearing into the guy is another, I say do whatever you like, who cares what others think, but most people here seem to try not to help but just criticize in a hurtful way, If true M cars are so great why would anyone want to modify them, because thats what true auto enthusiasts do, we try to take ours cars to the next level of performance, no matter how they come from factory, i personally think the OP car is very sharp and I like the badge, he's not trying to represent something its not! Be kind! Good looking car, buddy!

I think there is some humor value in putting an M badge on the X1 (if it's modified) just for trolling people into racing you and then surprising them.

That being said, while it briefly crossed my mind I did not put one on my car.

Its just funny... M's are so over rated... They are suppose to be the ultimate track car especially the M3... and they were made for the Nurburgring... Except they can't even beat a Corvette or a Camaro around the track that they were designed to rule. I can have a $50,000 ZL1 Camaro and beat the best M3 by over 6 seconds.. And thats per lap... Bottom line is, the M cars are great but they are so over rated and it is funny to see the people talk about them like they are the holy grail of cars... Put the Koolaid down!!!

Funny, I never went trolling for races with M cars, I always was looking for fast cars to race, maybe it was because I never seen the M badges as the large ones are on the rear deck lids...you only see them if your behind the car....

well put...they are great driving, fun vehicles but some of these people put the M cars on pedestals they can never reach.

2. The vast majority of M cars are sold with automatic gearboxes

3. The brakes on the 35i are actually bigger than the 28i's and are quite good.

4. Weight distribution is nearly 50/50. What are you talking about?

I haven't added an emblem to my x1, but it doesn't change the fact that the 35i M sport is practically an "M" car. Things would be different if BMW had never come out with the X5 M or X6 M, but now that they have, there is practically no differentiation between the 35i M sport and what they would come out with a X1 M. Again, I'll run down the list for you:

The X 1 35i M sport already has:

1. M suspension
2. M DTC and stability control software
3. More power routed to the rear wheels than the non-m version
4. 19 inch M wheels and p-zero tires
5. M specific bodywork
6. M badges on the sills, steering wheel, and wheels
7. With the JB4, a 0-60 faster than the M3's and a 12.9 1/4 mile - faster than a Cayenne turbo S
8. Nearly 50/50 weight distribution.

So again, what's missing from a X1 "m" ?

You state that a 12.9 1/4 mile time is faster then a Cayenne Turbo S, they rated at 12.5 1/4 mile and 4.3 0-60? I know because I had one..

No, you didn't have one.

Even if you're telling the truth, which I doubt, your 2004 Cayenne turbo is equal to a slower than a STOCK X1. 13.8s 1/4 mile and 5.4 seconds to 60.

Further, only the absolute current brand spanking new Cayenne Turbo runs the numbers you posted. Previous models are significantly slower, often not even breaking into the 12's.

Thought that was the one you were referring to? I said I had a cayenne turbo, which i did, and off the floor it turned a 13.5 1/4 mile, I took it to the track, and after the mild mods (evo motorsports cat back exhaust) i did it turned a 12.9 1/4 mile, even stock the X1 35i at 14.2 1/4 is not close but respectable, only one magazine got 13.8 1/4 mile out of one....you need to reasearch your facts before posting, why would you be writing in this years forum about a cayenne turbo that is 9 years old, maybe you had to go back that far to find an article that makes you feel better about your purchase, i like the X1 but please dont even compare it to a 9 year old 450 hp porsche suv worse yet a new 550 hp version..what a fool...

If you really had owned a Cayenne you'd realize that the Turbo and Turbo S are two different models. Can you post some pics of all of your previous exotics, with the same background so we know they are in your garage or driveway?

You are such a fool, they are same vehicle, the Cayenne turbo S has different brakes, larger intercoolers, special badging and a more agressive ecu program, i do know the difference, you don't....this is going to be my last post you guys are way too critical here, thought it would be a fun forum but all the bashing here is no fun at all, i don't have to prove anything to you, i didn't see the need taking pics of my cars and being i was raised in a very wealthy elite environment they were no big deal to anyone around me, most friends had just as nice or nicer stuff then mine, but i did get some pics of the later ones ive had, digital cameras werent present back in the 80's and 90's, it was 35mm cameras back then, I have no interest in showing them to you, all you will do is find some way to say they are fake or photo shopped, you just can't comprehend someone could own such cars, I'm lucky to be able to have afforded them, buddy it happens everyday where i come from, lol....friend of mine just bought the new 458 italia ferrari, and he has three bentleys and a stable of about 20 cars the last i heard, to my knowledge he dont take photos of his cars and show them around! If youre smart which your statements reflect your not so im speaking to other more intelligent people, these were cars ive owned over the last 28 years, my house is not 28 years old so would be hard to show all them in garage at same house, and ive moved probably 10 times since, oh forgot to mention I also buy and sell real estate, Ohhhhhhh damn you've got me I'm lying about everything, actually I'm an alien from Zoltar a planet light years away from Earth, lol....
