M Badge or no M Badge

Added an M badge from an X5 M. Its technically not an M but after the tune and a few other mods it should be worthy of the badge. What do you think? X1 35 Msport 19" wheels

I was actually debating this. After mods mine has approximately 400 bhp and since the car has M badges everywhere else from the factory, an M suspension, and M wheels, why the heck not?

And if the enthusiasts laugh, they are welcome to lose in a race if they wish.

I haven't done it yet, but am thinking about it.

I dont think people will laugh, the car will certainly perform pretty close to an X5M with 400HP. It does look a lot different than the stock X1 and like someone else stated its pretty well M badged everywhere else, wheels, door sills, steering wheel etc. I do want to remove the side badges Xdrive 35i if I decide to keep it.

I might go for the BMW license plate holder with ///M on it, but a badge? Nope.
That wouldn't be honest.

It's your car and you can do what you want. You certainly wouldn't be the first. But you will be questioned - possibly even openly criticized. Many BMW faithful already despise BMW's own use of the badge on lesser "M Sport" models, claiming it waters down the brand. But again, it is your car.

Agree with the others, it's your car, but as someone who's owned M cars and tuned non M cars, you do not presently have an M car.

My personal feelings for when adding an M badge is acceptable entail turning a non M car into a near clone, ie taking an E91 wagon and adding an E90's M3's engine, tranmission brakes and suspension. Then sticking an M sticker on is okay, but also ruins some of the stealth advantage.

Its only a sticker, I can take it off no problem either way. The truck kind of reminds me of a mini X5M.

DON'T DO IT! There are entire threads on Bimmerpost dedicated to people that put M badges on their non-M cars. Since there is no such thing as an X1M it just makes it look like your trying to make your car something its not. Enjoy your X1 for what it is. Oh, and even with a tune...you're not going to come close to a 550hp X5M.

Or at least have fun with it. Badge it as an MP4-12C or a Dreamliner.

No badge unless you feel like keeping the spotters busy. It's more fun to dust someone with a car that has no pretension.

No, debadge and an m license plate would be as far as I'd go. I'd probably strip side badging off too. If you're hell bent on keeping I'd remove the "X1" and center it a bit...

Sacrilege! .

I do know what you mean by it having little M badges everywhere already but to those that know you will look like a fool that is "trying too hard".

And it takes more than just an engine tune to make a real "M car", you can boost an N55 so it can out-drag a stock M3 for a block or two but comes the first corner it will be a very different story.

The X1 is a great handling car and it will leave almost all others SUV/CUV behind in the corners but its still nowhere even a "lowly" 1M (trust me on this one, I have first hand knowledge )

Thumbs down

Please do it so we can easily identify the tools. Adding power does not make it an M. Wow, I feel like I'm on a mustang thread.
