Silver parts
Hello guys,
I want to replace my silver plastic parts, the ones that are on the bottom of the bumpers and side of the vehicle. I want new ones because mine are kind of chipped from gravel and want to apply a clear coat over as well. I have talked to my dealer and they said that they can be purchased only with the whole bumper or the whole side part with the black portion, but this doesn't make sense to me. Can someone confirm if they can be ordered separately? My vehicle is exactly like the one in the picture (2012). Thanks. |

Hi Tracus,
Interested to know if someone has taken off the silver parts also. Mine only has silver sections on front and back, which I'm looking to paint Matt/Dull Black. When I was looking for suitable plastic paint/spray they had a primer/sealer that would Seal and Fill in any scratches or dints in the plastic. After that you can paint/spray your choice of colour. Maybe a replaceable wrap. Everything helps to reach decisions. |

I'm sure the silver part is integrated into the whole bumper and side skirt assembly. I would have it professionally wrapped in matte silver. Cheapest and most durable seeming option, IMO.

When I am looking under the rear bumper however, I do have the impression that the silver painted piece can still be taken off apartfrom the rest. I must consult a BMW body shop though, these guys must know. Thank you. |

If you are going to paint them then those parts have got Plastidip written all over them. Very durable, perfect texture for what you are working on. Removable as well.

My car only has those on the front and rear, but I have been considering going the carbon fiber route and having both the front, back, mirror covers, and interior plastic silver pieces all wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl wrap. I think it would look great with my sapphire black paint.
I found a place nearby who can do that, but I have yet to go there for an estimate of the cost. |
