Accessories for the X1 in the USA

While I'm waiting for my X1 to get on a ship I've been thinking about necessary accessories. I've got plenty of time to order them in advance if I can figure out what I need. For all of you already tooling around in your cars, help!

The standard equipment lists floor mats so I'm guessing I don't have to buy them unless I want the rubber kind. But I'm sure I will want something in the rear cargo area. BMWUSA lists these two:

http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductDet...ProductId=3921

Anyone with experience with either of these? I want something that will prevent any fluids from spilling.

Also any 3rd party alternatives I should consider.

On the entertainment front I'll be asking my dealer to supply any needed Ipod/Iphone cabling. My car has Idrive and I'm using an Iphone 4S so as long as they give me the proper cable I should be set there.

What I'm considering is a way to put a portable DVD player in the back to keep my 3 year old busy. BMW has one, but it is pricey.

Anyone suggest a good aftermarket solution?

And speaking of 3 year olds, what do people use to protect the rear seat leather from the required car seat? I have cloth seats right now so this hasn't been an issue. I was thinking to use an old bath towel which would not be elegant but would be cheap!

Finally any "must have" accessories that I should be looking at? Especially after market stuff that isn't on the BMWUSA page?

i have the first rubber cargo mat you listed. It's thin but is really all you need. I have the matching rubber mats for the footwells too. Made the dealer throw those in.

I'm getting mudflaps installed cause i think it squares off the backend nicely.

I also got the bmw base support rack though i have yet to install – hauling surfboard or bikerack or 2X4s or any extra stuff that won't fit in the car.

PS: Using Leather Master leather barrier to protect the seats. Seems to work great.

If you have iDrive, you can connect your phone and music over Bluetooth, including apps. I run Spotify off of my iPhone5 with no issues.

For rear seat video, BMW makes an iPad holder that clips onto the back of the front headrest, but as far as I've seen, they only hold the 1st gen iPad, not the second or third.

I don't have a rubber mat in the back, but there's a decent amount of storage below the load floor. I keep a liter of brake fluid and a quart of oil in the bucket next to the battery and my silly hippie shopping bags under the load floor.

I was hoping WeatherTech would have stuff available...but they don't yet. Also, I'd love to see any manufacturer that makes a trailer hitch.

While I don't have an answer to this (although I'd try felting the child seat), one option that you should get is disabling of the air bags near the child seat.

Regarding protecting the rear seat leather we bought a cover from Petsmart for our German Shepherd, we also have a car seat in the back for our grandson and the seat sits on top of the cover. Sorry I don't have the link but it was around $45 and is made of a canvas material and only covers the seat portion not the seat back. It works really well to keep it clean and protects the leather.

Good tip. I would never have thought about looking at Pet Smart for a seat cover.

Regarding the Petsmart seat cover, it was on line and not carried at the stores.

The set cover is actually $26.99, Kurgo shorty set cover and it will definitely keep your seat clean and scratch free. It has a belt that loops behind the seat to keep it in place as well as bungee cords to slide under the front part of the rear seat. It has holes for the baby set to clip into the seats.

Thanks- found it with that description. Available lots of places online. Looks a very good solution. Too bad they don't have it in black to match my interior color.

I bought the cheaper version of the cargo area mat from BMW (your link: http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductDet...ProductId=3922). I actually got mine on ebay for about $10 less including shipping. I think it's great for protecting the cargo area carpeting and it has a perfect fit. It has about a 1 inch lip around each side that should protect against melting ice on boots or condensation from a gallon of milk or a bag of ice. But, the side lip is a little flimsy, so if you expect to have a greater amount of ice or water back there, I would go with the more expensive option from BMW which looks to have a much higher and sturdy lip (but also comes at a much higher price).

In addition to the summer (carpet) mats included with the car, my dealer threw in the winter (rubber) floor mats for free, as well as the Y-cable for the iphone. I would wait to buy these until after you pick up your X1 in case your dealer does the same.
