Love BMW, hate BMW
I'm currently on my fourth BMW. They're my favorite cars. I like the way they look, I love the way they drive, I like the look of the interiors and the smell of the leather on a warm day. I've had a 330i sedan, a 328xi coupe, a z4 3.0si, and now an X1 xdrive28i.
However, of my 4 BMWs, I've had major issues with 3. I was stranded twice with my 330i. Two bad fuel pumps. I was without my 328 coupe for almost a month while they replaced the head on the engine....an $8000 repair. And now, after having an issue with my brakes and bringing my car in for its first oil service, I've been told that the dealership has been instructed by BMW to "hold" my car until parts for a fix can be obtained. This is related to the recent brake issue recall. And, of course, with the recent cold snap, my dealership has been overrun with broken down BMWs and ran out of BMW loaners. They put me into a Hyundai Accent with intermittent heat.....brrrrr. I would never even dream of owning a BMW outside of the warranty period! Sent from BimmerApp mobile app |

My sympathies. Is your X1 a 2013? I have a '13 xdrive28i and I haven't received any recall notice concerning the power brake pump. Called the dealership and they said my VIN wasn't yet being flagged. I was under the impression that all 2013 X1s were affected?

I haven't received my notice either, and according to the website my car falls in line with the dates etc..
Hearing these horror stories is kind of making me ponder my first BMW purchase.

I received my brake notice a while ago but the notice said they would not have parts until January and the dealer would contact me when they can schedule it for the work. It can't be that serious or they wouldn't let several hundred thousand cars be driven around for 4-6 months.

When this brake recall came out I called my dealer tech and asked about it so that I could understand what to look for and how to react when it happened. Basically the brakes will engage you just might need to stomp on the them.
That said if I brought my vehicle in and they would not release back to me with a comparable loaner I too would be rather irritated. |

Had to complain a few times to my service advisor.....the took the Hyundai back to Hertz and put me in a loaded 3 series. In all fairness, I've never seen the service department loaded with so many cars. Not sure if they're there for the recall.
