Almost Pulled the Trigger

Hey guys, I've been lurking for quite some time. Yesterday, I found a x135i, in blue, like I've been looking for.

The only problem is it's a 2013, and it's almost out of factory warranty(October), and the CPO doesn't really cover as many things as any other manufacturer. Like the entire suspension isn't covered. I just don't want to buy something that's going to nickel and dime me. I was hoping to find a 2015 lease turn in, in really nice shape or something.

The dealer won't budge much on price, as they are already "below KBB". I just feel like its a lot, for a that is 3 years old, and has almost 32k miles on it.

The did offer to have the wheels refinished, as they have been curbed. There are a handful of little scratches on the car, I don't believe they've tried to buff them out. There's a small touch up on the front bumper, passenger side near the fog light.

The rear view camera isn't very crisp. Is this normal? It looks like a 2006 camera phone. Comparatively to the girlfriends A4, it looks like someone walked over it with a magnet.

The replaced the pads, and not the rotors, and the rotors looks like shi*. I have the original pads/rotors on the back of my genesis, and it's got almost 70k miles on it, and they look a lot better. I'm going to see if they will replace those before the deal.

Lastly, BMW originally denied the CPO because the oil changes weren't done at a dealer, so the dealer had to have a tech remove the valve cover and show they were done. Is this real? That seems more problematic.

Here's the listing, what do you guys think?

seems high to me

By the way, are you sure that isn't part of the airbag recall? That could really hose you at resale if the airbag isn't fixed

I checked the NHTSA site and it has been recalled.

Well then it could be bad for resale until it gets fixed but should be good for purchase until then! No way the dealer won't budge on price if it's part of a recall that could take at least six months to complete - most dealers get antsy when a car sits on the lot for more than 3 months!

#1 A BMW dealership in the US can't sell a car that has the pending airbag recall. Everyone else can, third party, chevy dealer..ect, but direct from the dealership is a big no
#2 If they do plan on selling it to you they are going to grab a used bag not under recall/source from one that's been fixed already. Dealers are getting a small trickle of air bags so you might get lucky though or have a sales guy with enough pull to get you to the front.
#3 Like everyone else said, way over priced for not being certified.

That's kind of what I'm thinking.

I was told the airbag was fixed. They didn't show me any paperwork for the RO, but they did state it had been fixed.

The car is certified, BMW eventually agreed it was okay, but like I said, that was after they had to take the valve cover off, etc.

The BMW certified warranty, I'm sorry to say, kind of sucks. The whole suspension is excluded, the list of what the don't cover seems larger than what they would.

I think I'll stick to trying to find a 15. There is one about 90 miles from me, I might have to go look at. It's around 35k. But that was a dealership loaner car, and that makes me nervous too. We all know loaner cars are beat on by all of us that get them.

When I initially looked at this post I was thinking this was a good $2-3K high, but I missed that it was a 35i.

Given that, the KBB range for it in my zip code would be $28.7K to $32.7K it's really not priced badly. That said, I personally would (and did) go with a 28i for several thousand less. Even with the four banger it has plenty of zip

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty much determined to get A 35i. I'm coming from a sports car, and the 35i actually has the same/better straight line performance as my curreny coupe, and that's really appealing. I can justify moving into a BMW, and the girlfriend is totally on board because it's an suv and "practical".

Wouldn't you guys be worried at all about the CPO warranty? I mean, it covers so little, the car is already over 3 years old. How long until it starts needing things, like bit things.

You shouldn't worry about the suspension not been covered by warranty. Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, transfer case and door/windows actuators are the things that might give you problems down the road.

Really? Maybe the x1 is a lot better built, but a three year old car is going to start needing things.

I mean, I am coming from a Genesis, but I had a front spring replaced and it was almost $600, covered by my extended warranty. I can only imagine how much that would have been at a bmw dealership.

Things like the sealed headlights worry me. I don't want to be on the hook for a $1000 headlight a couple months after I buy the car. The 2013 worries me, as it's the age where it may start needing things. Unless, that's not true.

Headlights are also not a concern. There's cases of failed ones but not often.

Forgot to mention gaskets leaks amongst the list of problems. Those are inevitable in BMW.

FYI...I've got a 2014 xdrive35 with M-Sport and 14 months of warranty still on it for sale. Mine is a year newer, more options, and lower price with the suspension upgrades already done! Just check out the classifieds section, would love to find it a new home with someone on xBimmers!

Thanks for the offer, Alabama is just really far, and I'm really looking for a blue exterior.

Understand, but to find what you are looking for you may have to go long distance. I've bought 5 BMWs over my time, they came from Kentucky, Indiana, Nevada, Wisconsin, and California......nothing local to be found for what I was looking for. Shipping is also an option, from Alabama to the East Coast should be in the $600-700 range.

Good luck with your search!

FYI, don't know if you've already looked into it, but there is another 35i in the for sale section that is located in Mass...

And no it's not mine and I don't have any affiliation with the owner

Yeah, I'm beginning to realize that. If i i do fine a nice, low mileage, blue x1 35i, I may have to consider traveling. But it's going to have the be the identical car I should have ordered last year New from the dealer.
