You get the Stoptech kit yet? Lemme know if there's any issues, I'll be ordering June/July.

I won't be doing the install until spring (early March, since first trackday is late in the month) but everything above is being ordered this week, the new JRZ setup is already in. I don't anticipate any issues, only possible one would be brake lines.

That's what I'm thinking. They'll be short, have you talked to Stoptech about making them a bit longer or just providing you with a universal set? What diameter are you going with? 380 or 355?

The guys at my shop said they believe they will fit, stoptech won't just make them longer for you. Stoptech themselves said there is a chance it will fit, they just won't verify it.

If it doesn't fit my shop can make me custom lines.

What about disc size? I think I may be forced to use 355 since I want to keep the factory 18s for the winter.

I'll be doing coilers this year as well. Leaning towards KW V1s. Any specific brand you recommend for the rear adjustable control arms and the front camber plates?

I am doing the 355mm st60 kit. My track wheels are only 17 inch Apex Arc-8 to save money on consumables so the 355mm is the only kit that will clear.

Just want to say how happy I am to see this thread and someone who's basically in my shoes and chose this car. I recently got rid of my 2013 E93 M3 and ordering an X1 3.5 M Sport soon... not going as far as you did with the track setup, but definitely want every mod to make it faster, drop, wheels, etc. Subscribed!

The interesting thing for you is that the X1 is actually lighter than your e93, so you should see a pretty good performance increase over your previous car with even the most basic mods. Of course it's not as sexy, but at least it will be faster.

Thanks for sharing all of this, it is an amazing thread, congrats you made my day

Quick questions, though. So I understand M3 subframe bushings fit, which is really cool. Did you upgrade some of the rear arms too?
Would you also have the reference of those STI links you used to fit the M3 rear swaybar (I assumed you talked about the E9x M3 right?).

Thank you.

I know the subframe bushings are a PITA to replace. Has anyone considered just doing Powerflex inserts?

Yep that's a pain to replace, but with the correct tools, you can manage (and without dropping all the subframe out of the car)!

I have the Powerflex Black inserts on my ride, but the oem bushes are getting older and older so, I'm considering another solution to get a more firmer and plantier rear axle.

Yes, I am upgrading the upper links and rear guide rods as well. My install date is the 23rd of March for that, the new JRZ rs2, and the stoptechs. I would do it sooner (they have all arrived) but I will be on the road for work for the next two weeks.

For the exact STI links, I am not sure but call Turn In Concepts (http://turninconcepts.com/), ask for Tony, and tell them I sent you. Turn In is probably the shop that has the most experience with the X1 in the nation, I recommend you buy the links from them too (they will probably have them in stock and for a fair price). As a small business owner myself, don't just call for info and then buy them somewhere else!

My first track day of the year is March 26th. It is a private day at Mid-ohio and I am super excited about it. I will post pics as soon as all of the stuff is installed on the 23rd.

Great thank you for the information.
I forgot to ask but what swaybar are you using on the front?
Thank you

Stock sway bar, the only one that exists that we can upgrade to is the UCC. I am not a huge fan of that company and haven't felt a huge need to upgrade the front swaybar anyway.

Ok, thank you, I'll have a look at UUC.
Shame if we can't upgrade the front axle properly. I failed to find bushings, so I'm concerned upgrading the rear if there's no possibility to have the front matching...

With xdrive cars that is actually what is needed. If you stiffen up the front you will worsen the understeer.

I talked to a guy at Stoptech a few days ago. He thinks for sure the 335/328 kits will work. He did tell me to go with the 328xi kit as the pistons on the calipers is better suited to the X1 28i's ABS sensors. The 35i would obviously be the right kit for you.

He did say though, he is a bit worried about the measurement from the face of the caliper mounting bracket on the hub carrier to the face of the hub hole may be different from the X1 to the 3 series. He also said he thinks the P/N between the two hub carriers have a different number hopefully just because the X1 has a taller carrier to lift it over the height of the 3 series.

Looks like I'll be delving into this a lot sooner than I originally anticipated. But so far, all the info I've gathered from Stoptech seems to be in my favour.

Let me know what process you're at with regards to brakes. See if anything needs to be modified or not.

Downpipe is getting installed on the 13th. I'll see if my GoPro wants to work and take a video longer than 10 seconds.

I didn't feel any understeer issue with the X1 when I tested it. Note it is the 2L engine so probably lighter, it might explain. Anyway, I'll wait mine to arrive to be definitive. I'll have the KW V3 fitted right after the delivery with a proper wheels alignment. I'd really like to change all the bushings though, since BMW is now mainly focused on comfort and keeping the goods/fun parts for the ///M cars.

I did all those changes on my 135i and to tell you the truth, the car never felt balanced before rear and front were fully upgraded and matched, hence my questionning

Hey man congrats to you as being the first person for me to find that has stepped up and turned their X1 into something better. I am out of luck in the X3 side but wanted to see if there was some hope for me.

ER or Wagner Intercooler fitted your X1 fine? since I only see mentions for F series. Also for the ER Chargepipe i didn't see it on their website listed under X1 nor X3, did you just get a F30 N55 one or did you get the one for F10/F12/F13 ?

I know the BMS Intake is only for the N55 and so is their Drop-in so I will try to find a aFe drop-in or K&N for N20 instead.

Thanks

Hey Rob,

I know the feeling about being out of luck - my old car had zero aftermarket and it was really rough.

I am not sure about the X3 to be honest, as I think certain things might be different. For the X1, it is all E8x stuff, not F series that fits. So for the chargepipe and FMIC, I used the ones from the N55 from the 335i and 135i.

One way to find out what parts will fit (this is how I figured it out for the X1) is to use real oem. Look at a 335i N55 and look at your car in a separate browser window, and compare part numbers. If your chargepipe part number is the same as the 335i one, it will fit.
