I'm not sure what brand of springs I have. Need to take the wheels off. When I swap on some summer wheels/tires, I will take a peek. Yes, gloss black wheels look great on this car. I say go for it. Powder coating is relatively cheap too.

I've had the X1 for a couple weeks now and I know I am preaching to the choir when I tout how awesome this car is. The 35i spec is f*(king amazing! I never thought I would love a car with an autotragic so much (all my cars typically are manual), but this car has won me over. The refinement, technology, luxury, performance, and even the bulldog stance and looks have really captured my affection and appreciation.
I figured out that the PO installed the JB4 tune but disabled it before selling. I thought it was fast when I picked it up but after changing the settings to Automatic (5), it is a whole new animal! Bloody hell, it is fast. One question: does anyone experience the windows rolling down slightly after shutting off the car? It has happened to me a few times and initially, I thought my sunroof was effed up because it was whistling so much. It wasn't until last week that I figured out the whistling was coming from the windows being down slightly. Crazy thing is, it is fricking cold in Seattle right now (high 20s-30s) and I know I haven't intentionally rolled down the windows. Strange behavior. On another note, I pulled the trigger on a set of wheels. They are Type 433 reps: 19X8.5 et35 19X9.5 et37 Tried to find glossy black but couldn't so I settled on satin black. I am not too keen about the finish on the wheels near the lug holes. Shitty job of completing the paint into the holes but I am hoping the lug bolts will hide the areas that weren't painted properly. But for $715 shipped, I can't complain too much. I bought them from https://www.sdtwdirect.com/ I'm going to mount summer tires on the 19s in the next few weeks. I'll do some investigating about the springs at that time.

Make sure that if you don't already have a metal one, you upgrade the charge pipe. Setting 1 is relatively OK, but 2 or 5 have a good chance of breaking the OEM plastic charge pipe. Less so in Seattle compared to Florida maybe, but you don't want it to happen. First hand experience here, you don't want to have to get a tow home.

I think any of the 3 series are supposed to fit, I just went with VSRF. Burger Tuning had a cheaper 3rd party (chinese knock off?) option on their site.

It looks like I already have an aftermarket charge pipe. Please see pic below. Can anyone verify that this is aftermarket and not stock?

Yes, it's aftermarket - lucky you! The stock one is smooth plastic, that's obviously metal. Looks like the VSRF one.

The dealer that sold me my car gave me two fobs and unfortunately one is for another X1! I went to my local dealer and they told me it is basically useless because it is coded for a specific VIN.
I am wondering if there is a way to re-code the key and mimic the one I have that does work. Does anyone know if this is feasible and who offers this service? I did bite the bullet and bought a new fob from the dealer. It was $400 for the fob and $170 + tax for 1 hour of labor! Total highway robbery! But if there is some way to make use of the other fob that doesn't work for my car, I would like to explore that. Thanks.

I finally got my new summer wheels mounted. They are Type 433 reps with the following specs:
19X8.5 et35 225/40 Hankook Ventus V12 19X9.5 et37 255/35 Hankook Ventus V12 I also bought the Thule roof rack mounts and fit kit in order install my old-school square bar bike rack from my old car. Worked out pretty well. Finally, I installed a Lamin-x headlight film kit and decided to go with yellow film for the fogs. The headlight film is a major PITA to install due to the compound curves. Definitely take your time and spray a lot of water on the headlights. BTW, I am having an issue with my fog lights. I run my headlights on automatic. When it gets dark and the headlights turn on, my driver-side fog light will always be on, but not the passenger side, even though the fog light button is on OFF. When I press the fog light button to turn the fogs ON, both fog lights are on and when I press the button to turn off the fogs, only the passenger side fog light turns off. Has anyone else had this issue? And yes, the car is dirty and the wheels need cleaning. It still feels like winter in Seattle although it is finally starting to warm up. Two months in, I am digging my new ride. It's is fast as hell when I want it to be, versatile when I need to haul sh!t, and comfortable for all-around city driving. Woot!

Looking good!!! Did you ever figure out how the car is lowered? As for the headlight thing, it may have something to do with the adaptive lighting deal where the fog lights activate on one side when you turn the wheel or put the blinker on. Or is it independent of that? That's the only reason that only one of them should be on.

Damn, I forgot to check the springs when I swapped my wheels. I'll try to check in the next couple weeks.
Re: the fog lights, the symptom occurs regardless if I have my turn signals on or not. I wonder if the PO did some funky wiring down there. Quote:

If they're the H&Rs, the springs themselves should be blue. Ought to be able to spot that without too much effort.

I can't see the front springs but I just peeked at the rear and they look like they are black not blue. But that could be because they are dirty. That said, they are H&R springs.
