very good review from TTAC
This guy usually does good reviews. He gets into a lot of detail over the car (the review is 22 minutes long) and I agree with him for the most part. One thing I don't agree with is that the highway ride is loud. I would say the noise is slightly below par but its still definitely acceptable for a bmw and for the price considering how sporty the X1 is. |

Decent review, but he fails on a couple of technical details:
- The iDrive display unit isn't high resolution, as he says numerous times. At 480p, it's pretty low-res by today's standards, where 720p is a more decent resolution and 1080p not unheard of. Yes, it was high res compared to BMWs old iDrive when it first came out about 3 years ago. But it isn't by today's standards. - He makes it sound like the phone connectivity is standard and just requires a cradle insert. It doesn't. You have to have BMW Apps to get the cables that goes from the dash to the center console, and installing after the fact costs quite a bit more. This is a BMW marketing flaw, really - the details on the order page makes it sound like the $250 is for software only. Without it, you get a center console tray you can't really use for anything, because of the design where things will slide under plastic pieces and get lost, or fall out when you raise the tray to get to the storage under it. It would also have been good if he had said something like "if you don't use an iPhone or old BlackBerry, forget about most of this; it's incompatible with almost all Android and Windows Phone devices". |
