So Cal tire suggestion

We are taking delivery in the next few days of the sport line with all season run flats... and I hate the run flats.

225/45-18 is the size and I'm wondering what you guys are running? I have Nitto Motivo's in 225/40-18 on my Golf TDI and I really like the tires, but that is sort of a numb car by comparison. I want to keep the car feeling lively, but comfort and noise and longevity are also factors of course.

I would personally sacrifice performance for quietness and longevity, but I'm sure theres more than a few excellent all-round tires out there.

Thanks ahead of time for your suggestions.

Very happy with my Continental DWS's. You might find some useful info here http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=820397

Thinking about replacing the Goodyear Efficient Grip summer run flats that came with my wife's 35i this fall with the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3.

Couple of reviews:

Anyone have an opinion on the A/S 3s for X1?

I'm thinking this is the tire we will go with next on the X1. We have the tire on our 128i and are very happy once it was broken in. I'm still tempted to go with the Michelin PSS. Bridgestone S001s are likely the best RFT option.

Looks like the Nitto is our choice. The Nitto's have a stiffer sidewall than the DW or DWS, and I remember my DW's (summer tires) having a slight tramming/tracking problem on the freeway. It is probably not the case with DWS, but they are just a tad bit soft for my taste. Put some tire shine on the sides of the tires, take a hard turn in the DWS and look at the cupping... that's the one reason I think I'll stay away from those for now. The Nitto's are just stiff enough to hold up better.

Thanks for your advice everyone and I'll let you know how they treat us compared to the Pirelli P7 Run Flats.

My PS2's tramlined like crazy when I lived in California and had to deal with those silly grooved roads. MY PSS's were not nearly as bad and the Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires were nearly impervious to them. Let us know how the Nittos do, those roads really play hell on some tires.

Also thanks to apog, I hadn't seen that those PS 3 A/S's were out yet, those will likely end up on our X1.

Get proper summer tires instead of those meh-at-everything tires.

Probably should have bought a GT3 too, instead of a meh at everything car.

The Nitto's are amazing tires. 3k miles in and loving them, but I wanted to make a note compared to the Contnental DWS tires. They aren't any better or any worse, just longer lasting.

I prefer the Conti DW (summer) tires and will probably go for those next time. Anyway, just wanted to update.
