Warm up

Since there's no temp gauge, I have a hard time judging, but as the weather has gotten colder, my X1 seems a little longer in generating heat.
Is this the nature of the beast, or is my thermostat not letting it warm up?
Thnx,
Moon

Of course it takes longer for the engine to heat up when the temp drops. Totally normal

First thing in the morning when I start my car I just wait for idle rpm to drop before taking off.

This is a good practice but after that don't hit it hard since the transmission is still cold. BMW recommends theengine and transmission to warm up at the same time.

Warm up? The second after the engine starts at 6:50am M-F I shift into drive rather quickly. Then I immediately keep the RPM's high For the first 10 miles of my journey

You only need to do this during the break-in period.

Warm up

Hi, just my cent's worth, quoted form the owner's handbook, "Do not warm up the engine with the vehicle at a standstill; it is preferable to set off, driving at moderate engine speeds."

I find my X! warm s up and gives heat faster than any car I have ever owned. Just start out nice and easy first few minutes.

If it's really cold where you are, get an oil pan heater. That and run Mobil-1 0W40 oil, which is top of BMW's approved alternate oil list.

Our cars live in a somewhat heated garage; that is to say, with some leaked heat from the house above. Point being we're not starting from 20*, temp is usually 20* warmer than outside. We do get wintertime here in Westsylvania.

My bride has an Audi A4 and I have the X1; her car seems to make heat more rapidly than mine, hence the original question.
I'm in the 'drive off right away' school, tho' I drive gently 'till things have time to warm up a bit.
