My 2013 is burning oil

My 2013 28i X drive is burning oil. I did a search and saw a thread about the oil line to the turbo leaking but I am not sure if that is the issue. I will be taking it to the shop next week to have diagnose it but was wondering if anyone else had a leak not related to the turbo.

I know that BMW engines are known for burning oil. I was very surprised when my n20 didn't burn any oil at all.

My friends N54 has been burning about a quart every six months or so since he got it new in 2008. And his previous 2.5L I6 on an E46 did about a half a quart.

My N55 burns about a quart every 5k mi. No leaks. I'm told it's normal.

You say its burning oil, how much and how fast?
Its a lowerish compression turbo engine, its going to burn oil somewhere. Hell VW claims a quart every 3k is normal for their older FSI 2.0T

Are you getting notification from the CBS system? Frequency?
You can check your coolant. If it is murky and not clear blue then you might have gasket problem and oil is doing into your coolant system.
Simple visual inspection of the engine bay helps. Unfortunately our cars have these under tray that catches any oil therefore preventing you from seeing oil patches on the floor.

On my previous n54 equipped car, the oil filter gasket and valve cover gasket leaked (car had 12k miles). I'd ask for them to look at those

I took a close look today and it may be the oil filter gasket as a couple of you suggested. The oil level has not changed substantially. Please understand that when I say burning oil, I mean burning oil. Smoke and the strong smell are what finally got my attention, I have had the smoky exhaust for a while. I will try to check the coolant tomorrow.

Any thoughts on how much the repair will be?

$600 later and I have a new valve cover gasket. It was less than the $1800 I just spend for a new clutch in our WRX, so it was not too bad.
