Anyone on here regret purchasing their X1 35i???
Which vehicles did you cross-shop and are you happy with your purchase?

I am looking to do the Active Autowerke Tune to wake it up and hopefully at one point or another an exhaust will be made available for this vehicle but at the moment it appears that there is very little to no aftermarket support for this platform.

I don't like my exhaust neither and is more obvious than yours. But I do not regret getting the car. I truly believe that is a very nice package as a car, fast AWD, practical and well balanced.

I doubt though that they will develop something for the E84 anymore. Not too many out there to justify the costs.

No regrets getting mine. I love it. As far as exhausts, I'm a fabricator. I can always use my own to make a bolt on rear section if there as enough interest after I make my own.

A tune would wake it up, I advise getting a charge pipe as well. They do break off. We use a lot of JB4 tuners on the N55 and love them.

With the exception of an exhaust, there is a massive aftermarket for the platform. Nearly every 135i/335i part bolts on and even many M3 suspension parts. Tunes, downpipes, intercoolers, radiators, oil coolers, chargepipes, big brake kits, wheels, intakes, coilovers, subframe bushings, guide rods, sway bars, upgraded turbos, strut tower braces, and limited slip differentials are just some of the modifications available (I have them all).

Don't get an AA tune....go with a JB4.

I bought the X1 s28i M Sport, don't need more power, and I've tracked it at COTA @ 118mph top end.

I drove the 435i at a driving event to get idea of more power in a 35i, and it seemed to have more top end power (had the 8 speed auto).

I've considered the JB stage 1, but I'm afraid it'll just mess it up.

A few weeks ago, I drove to High Plains Raceway to track it and got 34.4 mpg at 70 mph average.

On a 70 mile leg of that it got 42 mpg.

I had about a 20 mph wind at my back, eased through many 30 mph small towns, and didn't need A/C the whole time.

Best car I ever thought could be made!

I've got the 255/40r18 summer performance P7's on the rear, and I can slip them off the line pretty easy.

I'll put Michelin PSS on in about a year, and think about it again.

I do have questions like: My X1 hits about 18 psi and settles down after a few seconds to about 14-16. What will the boost be with the JB stage 1? Will the 91 oct fuel still be enough? Is the boost hearing a knock when it turns down to 14-16, or is the tune just set up that way?

I need reasons to spend $400. on something a car doesn't need.

JB1 might be about 19psi. JB4 runs as high as 23psi.

What's wrong with the exhaust system? It works quite well, and there's not much extra effect to be gained on changing it.

No regrets. Sure, there are a few things I dislike, the main being the sliding armrest that decapitates whatever is in the cupholder when someone unfamiliar with the car gets in or out of a front seat. Or there being no lock for the cargo lid, so it bounces up and down. But overall? I'm very happy. It's responsive, agile, holds as much cargo as I need, and is an excellent car for active driving.

reduce weight, slight increase in hp, greatly improved exhaust note and lastly if and when i get a tune i would like to extract every ounce of power to make it worthwhile. i have installed exhausts, downpipes, headers or all on nearly every car i ever owned. sadly nobody has made one for this vehicle yet.

After the sound of my modified C5, any 4-6 cylinder sounds like flatulence. I would like a more responsive throttle.

a tune would create a more responsive throttle and decrease majority of the dbw lag.

in regards to your other comment i assume it's a matter of perception and taste but i can think of several four and six cylinder vehicles that sound much better with exhaust upgrades than they did in stock form but again different strokes for different folks not really the point of the thread. at all.

I still find the car hard to drive. You press the gas and there's no way to drive carefully, nothing happens so you press a little more.. nothing happens .. so you press a little more then wham it goes all berko. i dunno if it's turbo lag or a poor gas pedal arrangement, but it's not a smooth car to tootle around in.

You keep saying this, but it is not true. I have had a downpipe on my car for 40,000 miles, as have many on this forum. Here is a link to one that fits:

With a downpipe, intake, and the golf tee mod so the exhaust flaps are open all the time, the exhaust sounds aggressive and great.

Any decent shop can custom fab you one for a few hundred dollars.

I have a good relationship with Active Autowerke & AWE Tuning. I may be able to drop off my car and see if they can build one if there is enough interest for an exhaust for the 35i.

I have done this in the past for a few magnaflow exhaust... most notably the Mk5 R32 & Q7. Pretty sure I could get it done for this if there is demand.

In a 35i? Those symptoms are typical for the 28i, not the 35i. I find it quite responsive, but then again, I brake with both feet (or heel-toe on manuals).
