Dream Car

Bought my 2014 X1 28i in July with just over 6,000 miles. I'm at about 12,200.
It drives like a dream.

I should hit 100k in the spring. Anyone else over 100k? Hows the reliability as the miles go up?

I just went over 50,000 miles, about 2 weeks from my four-year purchase anniversary. Had last "free" maintenance at about 49,600 then went on weekend trip, LA-SF area. My dealership went chintzy on me, I feel, on that last free service - it had been just over a year since my last oil change but the alert was not on. They just "topped me off" and didn't reset it. They also claimed that my brakes were in great condition and recalibrated the service alert for another 15-20K on each. I'm fine with that. So basically they just performed an inspection.

I wish the tires didn't have another 10-15k in them. I have the Goodyears and they've been good RFTs but they are a bit noisy and very sensitive. I don't need to feel it when I run over a leaf. Think I'll try the Bridgestone DriveGuards but that seems to be a bit away, unless I decide to just go for it after 4 years of service with the Goodyears.

How much longer will I keep the X1? Indefinitely. My second car (Audi A3 Cab) is a lease that ends January 2018. Things seem to be changing fast in the auto world, with more electric vehicles, autonomous driving, etc. But as long as the X1 stays strong and reliable, I'll keep it. No extended warranty here.

I've had mine 9 months now and I still only have 42k km on mine, roughly 26k miles. I bought it at 36k km. I'm rarely home and my wife drives it but she usually takes the truck, which has almost the exact same mileage and it's a 2013.

I wish I drove it more.

90k, shes a beast. May be time soon for first set of brakes (i do mostly highway), though they feel fine. Maintenance minder says 3200 miles left, but it goes down very slowly....Sometimes I feel like getting a new car, but she rides like new and trade in value not much....

56000km. That's like 34000miles and change.
Sometime next year I will have to think about whether to get an extended warranty or not. She's been good so far.

Purchased in March of 2013 and hit 80,000 this weekend. Problem free so far and have only replaced the front brakes (pads and rotors), wipers, air filter, oil filter and tires since being OOW. I will hopefully own it for 200k miles and will be very happy if it does not give me any issues that are not just wear and tear.

I've got 56k on my 2013. No problems.

So nice to hear about the high miles, no problems examples. I'm very encouraged.

96000 miles (not Km)

bought used with 82000 miles now I'm second owner and have 95000 in one year. The original owner had an issue with the turbo blowing smoke upon startup. Dealer recommended a new turbo but I use 5w-40 Penzoil and the smoke has gone away. I will just get the updated oil feed tube with the one-way valve when the time comes. I also have a backup turbo repair kit if I need to do seals. I do inspect the timing chain and guides with a small camera and all seems well there.

What do you look for in the timing chain? I would invest in an inexpensive borescope if I knew what to look for....

I used a cheap borescope to inspect the top guide..I looked for cracks or any other signs that it's failing as it seems that this is the part that fails based on the research that I've done. I also tried my best to push the scope down the engine to look at the tensioner guide and the slide rail and both look ok..what I have not been able to look at closely is the connection point between the slide rail and the tip rail..the connection has tabs with two notches...again everything seems ok. Also a side note: I've seen posts of people with timing chain failures on x1s and f30s...the pictures show plastic oil filter housings and the older style chain tensioner...my x1 (as well as my brand new 428) have the same metal oil filter housing and what appears to be the updated tensioner...so perhaps some timing chain failures were due to coolant getting in the oil from the plastic oil filter housing or the "older" tensioner not working properly over time. and another side note: my brand new 428 has the same "shinny marks" on the timing chain as my 95k mile x1. so in my opinion these "shiny" marks on the timing chain are not indicators of impending failure but what I would think is a condition of using light oil which breaks down over time to an even lighter weight because of the turbo heat....all the same, I'm keeping a close eye on the x1 but so far so good.

I'm at 45,000 miles and my front brakes are practically done... Well one of the pads is, the rest are still at some 30-40%, rotors have live left too but not enough to turn them and reuse...

There goes $250 that could have waited another year or two if it wasn't for that one pad

I bought a 2013 with 16k miles. Not the lowest miles mentioned here, but maybe close to the lowest per year? Someone didn't drive this a lot.... In two months, I've only added about a thousand, so I'm not adding a lot per year right now (no long commute).
