Full price of the deal (according to the price table on page 1, before LCT - LCT is insignificant anyway as it is only slightly above $75000) is $81457, so at $78000, they are only giving you $3500 discount.
Not trying to have a go at you but that price, $78000 is not really that exciting.
I know its different here in the UK but discounts on the X1 are still very small. I looked at both the 1 and 3 series before going for the X1. On the first two models discounts of up to 15% are easily obtained. After much haggling walking out etc I got 3% off on the X1. The discount mentioned above in Oz sounds about right.

Full price of the deal (according to the price table on page 1, before LCT - LCT is insignificant anyway as it is only slightly above $75000) is $80725, so at $78000, they are only giving you $2000 discount.

Sorry, not sure what you've added up there. I can confirm my numbers are 100% accurate for WA (I did say i'm an accountant):
Car inclusive of GST = 59,280
Dealer delivery = 4,000 (yay for only one stealership)
Options inclusive of GST = 14,848
Car price before LCT + onroads = 78,148
Here in WA, our stamp duty is 6.5% flat on all cars over $45,001, as opposed to your 2% in Qld, a difference that works out to be $2,667 alone.
So stamp duty = $3,853
LCT = $909 (33% x (78,148 - 75,375))
Rego = $590 - again, differs per state
Bringing total on road to $83,480

So an on-road offer of $78,000 represents a saving of $5,480 here in the West, which is more exciting than your calculation!

Edit: I read Noosa but didn't read the rest, I see you're now in Melbourne. In that case, your stamp duty is 5%, which is still 1.5% lower than ours and equates to $889.20 more saving.

Finally got a date today. My X1 will arrive in Australia mid August. So I can only assume 2 to 3 weeks after that I should hopefully have it.

I hope it has been worth the wait.

Someone at work mentioned that since I'm salary sacrificing for my X1 then I should be entitled to a Fleet Discount that is most commonly offered (this is going through LeasePlan). Does anyone know whether BMW offers this? I know Nissan do and they knocked 10% of the price of the Dualis I was originally looking at. If they can lop just 5% off then I won't have to pay any LCT. It's the blooming LCT I don't want to pay (geez 33% is a bit rich don't you think?)

You'd be surprised at how many options you can get on an X1 23d before you pass the LCT threshold. If you look at my proposed spec, it's only $909 worth of LCT in all of that. Due to all the diesel model meeting fuel efficiency targets, the LCT threshold is increased to $75,375 and you only pay 33% on the difference between you price and that.

As to your leasing question, I know when you salary sacrifice, you don't pay GST so you instantly save 10% off the purchase price (something about your employer being able to use the tax credits). Other than that, I don't know much about other "fleet discounts".

I don't know about a Fleet Discount but if you are leasing the car through Leaseplan they will purchase the car and can usually get significant discounts because of their buying power. You need to give Leaseplan your choice of vehicle and options and they go shopping getting quotes, etc.

Another way to achieve discounts and reduction in dealer delivery charges is if the organisation you work for is a member of the BMW corporate programme. You also get 2 years free servicing through this. This is not part of a lease though.

How long does it take on average from arriving at the dock to you receiving delivery of the vehicle?

Just picked up my new Space Grey beast a week ago - and what a car it is

But was wondering, does the Business sat nav have a hard drive I can save music files to and does the CD player read DVD's? (music files).

Cheers

Thats exactly what I've done - got a tiny black and aluminium (to match the interior trim) USB stick permanently plugged in. Works a treat.

Guys

Do the deal without Corporate Plan and get them down as low as you can. The dealers will load all of their profit into dealer delivery etc. Once you have them as low as you can, then state you are a corporate plan emmeber and you will then get the $4k or so off dealer delivery as wel as 2 years servicing etc.

I got a great deal on mine doing it that way.

surely if they are a half smart salesman, the first thing they will ask is who you work for and look up to see if they can get you onto corp!

I 100% agree but it worked for me. Got a firm quote from Sydney BMW then took it to Brisbane and got the price matched with the Corporate plan. I was pleased with myself to say the least!
