Need Help Troubleshooting "Bad" Stage 1

I bought a BMW Stage 1 and after plugging it in and driving around, I don't notice any difference.

It was previously on an m3, and he said it worked, and I have an x1 35i, so it's the same Stage 1 for both.

I've checked the connections a few times, it's plugged in right, to the MAP sensor and the TMAP down on the charge-pipe. I've even checked the chargepipe to make sure it's "tight" and nothing is loose or leaking.

Posted gains are 40hp/60 TQ, I'd feel that. Hell, even if it was only 20hp/30TQ, I'd feel that.

I thought about buying a BMS cable, and plugging it in to see if it'll connect. If it doesn't, then I know it's bad, but I'd hate to waste $45 to find out it's bad, and then have to work with the seller to send it back.

Is there anything I can do to confirm the Stage 1 is working? Like a voltage check across a couple pins or something? Anyone in Massachusetts want to meet up for a coffee or a beer and let me borrow their BMS cable for 20 minutes?!

An M3, regardless of which generation you refer to, does not have the same engine as your X1 35i, so that would be your first issue.

According to the BMS website, it can automatically detect for the engine. So whether someone bought it for the N55 or the S55, it should work. Maybe it's possible, whatever in the chip does the detection changes, isn't working. Not sure how to better articulate that

This... You need the correct tune for your engine. You can't just grab any of them and expect it to work.

Heck, I've run into an issue where the N20 JB4 doesn't work on my N20 as the 28i X1 requires a completely unique version.

Indeed it does say at the link:

"The same box automatically detects whether you have an N20, N55, or S55 motor based on the TMAP sensor voltage and adjusts the tuning accordingly."

So I stand corrected.

Regarding your query about meeting up with someone, you might want to post a thread in the M3 or 3 Series regional forums for that.

I was trying to type that, but my computer froze and it posted literally nothing.
