A small crack on the front window.
When I was driving on the highway, a car deflected a rock onto the front window of my x1 and caused a small crack. In the past I had a car with a similar crack and it never got any bigger or worse. But I have heard from a friend of mine that his crack is getting bigger on his window.
What would you do? and Where should I get it done? Thanks in advance. |

Glass coverage is part of the comprehensive policy. Usually, it's a different rate aside from your deductable. In some cases, it's low deductable or free. Check with your insurance agent.
If it doesn't spread and can be covered by a 50 cent piece, they can fill it with resin. If it's larger and spreads, they have to replace the windshield. |

Free replacement in SC, state law. Good thing you don't own a Mini because they are rock magnets because they are so low to the ground. Any time you see a car in SC with a cracked windshield you get as far away as possible because they are driving without insurance ( seriously).

Depending on your state and insurance company, it might cost nothing. I have state farm and about 5 years ago when I had my last windshield replaced it was a $100 deductible and safelite waived the deductible so it cost me nothing. I have heard though that the $100 deductible waiver is not a guarantee lately as my state law might have changed, but $900 would be a sign of a bad insurance policy if that's your comprehensive deductible and not your accident deductible.

Windshield replacement is another story and falls under your comprehensive coverage and deductible. |

Regardless of whether or not your insurance pays for it, fix it now, before it gets so large that replacing the windshield becomes necessary. The cost of a patch is much less expensive than replacing the entire windshield. You live in BC where temps get quite chilly during the winter. Remember, that glass expands/contracts with temperature changes. It might not happen immediately, but it will. Also, if your windshield suffers another impact in the same area, the problem becomes worse.
