Centering rings for O.Z. wheels

I have been researching a lot of wheels lately and found O.Z. Ultraleggera's that struck my fancy. However, I've never had wheels that needed centering rings. How good/bad is it that they need them and can it cause any future issues? Otherwise, the wheels are really light and they come in black, which is what I am looking for.... Anyone have any experience with these wheels and/or anything else that needed centering rings??

i was looking at same ones but also look at these lighter and cheaper enkie raijin-19 and enkei rsm9

Of course correct center bores are ideal, but I've purchased several sets of wheels with centering rings over the years. As long as you're buying from a reputable source (such as the Tire Rack), centering rings shouldn't be need for concern. The rings can stick to the hub, so a little anti-seize can help prevent problems.

yep...and plastic centering rings can crack. Two of mine broke when pulling off my winter set after only being on the car for 4 months. Anti-seize may have made a difference...not sure.

No need to worry at all about using wheels that need centering rings. The lug nuts are the important issue to have match (ball vs cone mount), the wheels won't fall off because you mounted them with centering rings.

The best are the centering rings that are made out of aluminum and have a snap ring to keep them attached to the wheel. The least desirable are the plastic centering rings that can occasionally crack during a wheel change or melt (when using them on the track or autox). That being said, we have used wheels with plastic centering rings for years on our cars without any issues. And if there is an issue, generic replacements can be found anywhere if lost, broken, melted, etc.

If you like the style of the Enkei Raijin, you may want to take a look at VMR's, too.

I put matte black VMR 710's on my wife's Q5, and she absolutely loves them. I am impressed with the available styles, price, quality of the finish and aggressive offsets. The color was her choice, and while I would have gone with silver myself, I have to admit she gets a lot of compliments. VMR's are machined with the correct center bore.
