Exclamation New x1 xdrive automatic, trouble with gear-stick

After 900 km from new, gearstick seems faulty.
This is the new steptronic stick, press left side-button to
place it in R or D. P-button on top. Gear stick can only be
moved with a pressed brake-pedal.
The problem:
Brake pedal pressed, stick placed i R position for reverse.
Foot removed from bake pedal to start reversing,
BUT stick is automatically placed i P-position !!!!
Cant reverse !!!
Same can also occur in D-position, but not always.
Car is now stuck in garage, cant reverse !!!
Any hints ??

Put it in N, push it backwards and drive to the dealer.

ok. thanks. But I am really scared of driving this thing. Have expereinced the same
also in D position. Have also noticed a red warning sign on the display,
(exclamation mark). According to manual it means "time for service". But first service is for 30.000 km ?????

Well, there must be something wrong I guess.
Have you received a BMW assistence card?
Perhaps give them a call and they may come to pich up your car, guess it still got warranty since you drove less than 30.000 kms with it.

SOLVED !
Driver door was not completly shut. Security program says no driving allowed with
open doors ! But I wanted to reverse and look back with open doors ! So I must
first start reversing with door shut, THEN open the door to lokk back.
Dont like this system, but dealer says this cannot be altered.

That's right, as a safety feature (or you may call it troublesome feature ). The newer BMW won't allow you to shift into gear when the door is opened.
