X1 1.8 sdrive in snow?

Hi,

I will shortly receive my X1 sdrive and want to order snow chain. I'm in the Thule k_summit system k-33.

Does anyone tried these before?

Sorry no, but am very interested in how you get on. I am getting a set of chains for my X1 as well but still shopping around. Will let you know how I get on as well.

I find that winter tires and DTC-on get you out of most situations.

Snow chains must be carried in some countries

In some countries it is a legal requirement to carry snow chains at certain times. it is here in Victoria, Australia where I am.

I have a set of Konig T2 Magic 104s, which I have not yet had to fit during the past snow season here.

The car has handled all snow conditions so far without any problem. Snow up to about 5inches (~125 mm). I should add i'm on low profile RFT's on 18in alloys - 322, so I'm very happy with the performance.

I need snow chains because I dont have space for winter tyres to store, I dont have the time to do that (change tyres) every time I go to the mountain and last but most important there are few times only that I'm visiting the mountains for snowboarding especially during the last years where the snow seems to fall in lower and lower quantities here... Serious winter is only about a month..

My previous car (bmw 116i) teached me that a rear wheel drive car needs absolutely snow chains on icy/snowy roads otherwise u play with your life..

Well, in most situations, especially in urban setting, a 2WD with snow tyres will do the trick.

You should be live here to pay an extra 2,000 euros as a luxury tax if you exceeded 15,000 euro manufacturer price...

Hi,

Really surprised, I have 17" tyres and have had no problems and thats in over 30cm of snow on the road. I have been meaning to post here of my experiences the past week of driving in the mega snow we have here but have been a wee bit busy.

Suffice to say I have been amazed at how good the X1 is performing.
