Is it just me - x1 looks like 1-series hatchback?

Does anyone think x1 and the 1-series hatchback looks kindda alike?

Well, it it.
Or a fit 3 (E90) touring.

Very funny (well, at 1st it was scary) is when you are in front or behind a X6,
I thought it would eat me, luckily the cars are from the same family so it didn't, lol.

The X1 is based on the 3-series, not the 1-series.
To me, it looks more like a slightly jacked up and taller 3-er wagon than anything else. It's rather long, and neither a hatchback nor an SUV (which the owner's manual takes care to point out). I prefer to see it as a tall station wagon, and see no shame in that. It's useful and a joy to drive.

Well, nothing wrong with the x1, and I like it.

Just that there were a couple scenarios where I came across a few 1-series hatchback photos and mistaken that its a x1, lol. Was just curious if anyone thinks the same, that they sorta look alike.

Surprisingly, I haven't seen one here in Canada before. Are the 1-series hatchback not available in Canada or something?

Well, due to the fact we own a X1 we know better.
On paper it is a station (since a SUV can't be a company car, BMW opted for station) and yes, it was based on the 3 series.

Take a 1 series hatchback, a 3 series (E9x station) and a X1 next to one another and many people would think it is the same and have to look closely to see the difference

Best is when I hear a friend (woman) telling she has seen a beautifully car.
When I ask what car it was..... " a blue one " she replies.

I have mine debadged, and a buddy (currently a BMW tech) couldn't figure what model it was. He thought it was a 1 hatch that I imported lol. Granted though, he just got back into the BMW game after a 5 year leave.

lol. but i have to say, the 1-series hatchback looks a little cooler than x1. It seems more sporty and proportional

At least that rules out Ferrari and DeLorean.

When people say "based' on the 3 series I get a bit lost. Is the old 3 series really that small inside? I find the X1 very tight to say the least. If the 3 is that small then god help the 1 series.

The last 1er was also based on the E90 chassis, just with different (and horrible) suspension and a slightly shorter wheelbase. I'm 6'2" and both our old 135i and X1 feel plenty big, although I will say that with the kid seat in the middle (non LATCH, thanks for that, BMW), it's about as small as we could probably go.

Just not in the center. You can get the two inside ones to work, but the spacing is outside of spec.

The rear seats may be small and not offer much leg room, but there's more than enough for the driver. I doubt your Hyundai had anywhere near the trunk space either.

It had more boot space. Sure the driver is OK, you just push the seat back but the front passenger area is a bit tight/narrow.

The front passenger area has the exact same room as the driver's side. Maybe even more with the lack of pedals. They too, can push the seat all the way back.

It's a good looking car, one of the better looking beemers as it doesn't look like a bashed crab.
