Navigation Recall/First Oil Change

Combined two threads into one but when I went in today for my first oil change at 12 months they said there is a new recall to reprogram Navigation. I didn't have 2-3 hours to wait for it so I passed for the time being. The X1 has 8,800 miles on it at one year and I didn't want to wait for the CBS which said about 11,400 would be the oil change. It was a free change. When they reset the computer it now says 12,000 miles for next change or the count down is next July of 2014 which is what it originally said for the date. Seems like it came programmed at 15,000 miles for the first change so it looks like BMW has definitely backed down the mileage for changes probably due to the turbos. Like I said, mine had already said I could only get 11,400 but its mostly short trips of 3-5 miles with only about 1,500 hwy miles.

I just noticed on the work receipt that it shows the production date of July although I didn't receive it until Aug 25 so the computer is going 2 years off the production date not delivery date.

I got my first oil change at 13,925 today (or 02/2017). Car has been programmed for next oil change in 16,000 miles. I have read people here getting next change programmed at 10k or 12k on their '13 X1s. Service manager told me they can not change that. What gives?

There are about 5 future service dates on my May 23 2014 produced X1 s28i.

Just keep scrolling and you'll find yours.

I thought they reset when they delivered to US, but the 05/2015 for oil change is still there, and service or whatever at 08/2014 a year after I picked car back up from Euro Delivery.

Other dates are for emissions and other service, but go up to about 05/2025 or whatever.

I saw how much synthetic oil is off the shelf in Germany, and I'd probably go 14k miles myself, but the oil is only $25 at Walmart for Mobil 1 0w40 so I'll get up to only 10k miles.

Sounds like your dealer is screwing you. I called the dealer about two weeks before the one year date and they put my Vin in the computer and told me it was done free at 12 months. So like I said earlier they reset it to 12,000 and 12 months. Several others have had the same experience but it is not in writing at least Zi could not find it in the owners manual or maintenance manual.

Thanks for the reply...the date does not matter, as I drive alot. But not happy with the 16,000 miles for next oil change. Another strange thing is I have driven over 300 miles since oil change, and it still says 16,000 miles!!

I have not received my X1 yet it is somewhere west of the Azores.
I currently drive a X3 and it had service light problems at first. One of the problems was an oil sensor. The X3 only had 5 or 6K miles at the time but I was getting a warning that I was over the mileage by 30k. Since the 3liter engines have their oil changes controlled by how dirty the oil is mileage can vary do to the type of driving and the environment.

It counts down 1,000 at a time, mine stayed at 12,000 and a month later it showed 11,000.

Below is response from dealer when I asked him why he reset oil change indicator back to 16k when 2014s are getting it set to 10k, same engine:

Good morning,

Just got the official word from Bmw Engineering, the oil life indicator can only be set one way, the car will then count down accordingly to driving habits. He also stated that the dealers should not try to tamper with the service settings. You are definitely entitled to an oil service every year and of course when the service reminder is on. As always feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Thank you

Bob

That is totally BS. I am taking my car in on Nov 1st for the 1st oil change (7,900miles on the clock) and my SA confirmed that the new code for all turbo cars resets the cars to 12k mile oil service. I have a '13 X135. My Sa ran the last 7 numbers of my vin and said the computer showed that the interval change will affect my car.

I agree, somethings not right. I wrote to him the following:

OK thank you. Just really dont understand why 2014 requires oil change every 10,000 miles and 2013 with same engine requires every 16,000 miles. And that some dealers are doing the 10,000 mile reset on 2013 models.

He then replied:

Good morning,

Not sure why they made the change either, as far as other dealers doing a reset for 10,000 miles according to Bmw that is not true. I called local dealers that I know and they are not resetting any different. I will continue to look into, of course if I could reset earlier it would benefit me as well considering Bmw pays me for every service I perform.

Have a nice day, I will be in touch if I get any \further info.

Thank you

Bob

You can tell him BMW of Columbia is doing it but I'm sure he doesn't care. You may have the only dealer that isn't doing it.

The reset in mine was 12,000 not 10,000.

I don't care if anything on the dash is reset ever.

I found an empty page in the owners manual that I write down when I change oil; just like old times.

If I reach a date on dash, I'll take in and maybe get a free valve adjust or whatever they want to do.

They could do the valve adjustment check when they are on the camshaft area fixing the vacuum pump recall.

Valve adjustment? When did BMW go back to solid lifters? Are you sure about this?

Just picked my car up from oil service at Irvine BMW and they reset my CBS readout for oil changes to 12,000 miles per the new interval from BMW. I confirmed with my SA all turbo models qualify for the milage change from 15k to 12k oil changes.
